• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Just wondering who all uses this?

Did you just download it? Did you have any problems?

Did anyone also pick up the CD? Anybody have experience with the CD?

Here is what all comes on the current CD available.
I like having a CD for easy transference if I change PCs.

I've never used esword, but I've only heard good things about it. I use biblegateway.com, but I don't think it has all the features of esword.
That is what I have heard also.
Just want to see if anyone had a bad experience.
I use biblegateway right now.

Five thumbs up.
eSword has become the largest single program and most used program (other than my OS) on my computer. I have had zero problems with it. I love how it has the books of the Bible on the left in a tree format. Makes it easy to look up refs. Let's see, I have the following plug-ins:

Bibles - KJV, Greek NT, Textus Receptus, Hebrew OT, LXX. Vulgate, and Spanish Revised. (KJV w/Strong's numbers comes with the initial download)

Commentaries - Barne's, Gill, Henry, Jamieson, Fausset and Brown, Keil and Delitzsch, Robertson's Word Pictures, The Treasury of David, Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, and Vincent's Word Studies.

Dictionaries - Brown-Driver-Briggs, Easton, Fausset, Hitchcock's Bible Names, International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, King James Dictionary, Nave's Topical Bible, Thayer's Greek Definitions, and Torrey's New Topical Textbook. (Strong's comes with the initial download)

Graphics - American Bible Society Maps, Classic Bible Maps, and Son Light Bible Atlas.

Extras - All of Grace (Spurgeon), and Absolute Surrender (Murray)

Devotions - Morning and Evening (Spurgeon)

I am still downloading a few plug-ins per day, so this list will expand substantially. I also love the Compare and the Parallel features. Seeing verses in different versions and languages helps. I have only just started using eSword but I highly recommend it to everyone. It's free and powerful. I was using Quickverse before, and eSword is far superior IMHO.

Edit: Of course none of this is worth anything unless we apply what the Holy Spirit teaches us from the Word.

What is KJV w/Strong's numbers ?
Next to each word in the KJV is the number for that word in Strong's Concordance. And it's nice because all you have to do is to hover the pointer over the number and the definition pops up. Also, when verses are referred to in the plug-ins it's the same thing, just put the pointer over the verse, and the verse pops up in whatever version/translation you have in the Bible window.

I think it gives you what the actual word is in the original language. Strongs is a concordance, so it would tell you different definitions for the actual original word...instead of someone's guess as to which definition should actually be used in the English version?

I have the HUGE and HEAVY Strong's Exhaustive Concordance on my book shelf.
Me too. But I rarely use it any more since it was on my Quickverse and now eSword.

jenptcfan, that is correct, but I think it is still a good idea to try to get several refs on word meanings. - 'in the multitude of counselors there is safety' Pr 24:6b But Strong's has stood the test of time.

I absolutely love e-sword. The only problems I've had is that sometimes it shuts down without warning (but that's probably because of my old computer, not the program itself). I love it because you can use it off-line and it's a lot more user-friendly than www.biblegateway.com. You can actually leave notes for a particular scripture verse that you can refer to later on. You can design your own Bible Study, make your own notes...it's really amazing.

The "extras" like the maps and things are really useful too. And it's free...you can't get any better than that!

I forgot to add that it has a prayer list function. You can set it to pop up whenever you start the program. It can be set for a one time prayer request, daily prayers, weekly, and monthly. And you can add notes to the specific prayer request to remind you what exactly to pray for and in case there is a change.

I LOVE e-sword. It was a long download for me cuz I only have dial-up but it was worth it. I have at least 14 bibles and almost all the commentaries. I use it a lot for lesson prep. One of my favorite features is the bible in a year. You can set your favorite version. I've also been thinking about buying the NASB add on. It has NASB version w Strongs and also some other useful things. (drools)

I want that NASB package too. But what is the deal with the NIV? Is that Zondervan? They won't give Equipping ministries a license. This is not right. It's like, "We want all the money from sales of our version of the Bible". That just doesn't sit right with me. There must be more to it, I hope.

Actually that is what it all boils down to, money. They make billions a year off of the NIV and don't want people to have it for free. It doesn't sit well with me either. If people find that it is available for free download then they will lose money.

..General RANT to the Christian publishers..

The Word of God should NOT be COPYRIGHTED.

BY doing so they are saying only those who can pay for it can learn and be saved.

It is SO ABSURD.

GOD certainly did not intend this to be happening with His Word.
