Dying Yarn?

I'm tying to find out how to dye yarn veregated colors. I have the yarn and the dye, but not the knowledge.

I have 3 colors. All I want to do is have equal parts of all three, or something close to that. Any suggestions would be great.

Have you tried dying with natural vegetation? I haven't got my books at hand but I used to spin & dye my own wool. It's fun!
