  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Everything begins and ends with a thought; no thought, no problem.
And is this the advice we should give to a new believer who has battled alcoholism or drugs, where the thoughts and temptations, satan's arrows, seemingly come flying out of nowhere incessantly?

Look, make no mistake, the thoughts WILL come. The key is to know the source of those thoughts. Those that do not line up with what God has either said to us or about us, reject as attacks, baited hooks from the enemy. Those are NOT. our thoughts. It is in this way we bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

Blessings,

Gids

To me that is practical, and concise, like let the dead bury the dead, or pickup your cross and follow me, but it certainly isn't a spiritual warfare hand book, or the best way to study and memorize the Bible, or how to hear God speak and direct you. It is through use that we are exercised to discern, but in the end, it really does all come down to thought.

How does one die to themselves? What practical advice would you give to someone seeking such advice?
I recommend the book "Purpose Driven Life", but listen to it in audio read by the author, Pastor Rick Warren. It's the first time that I know what dying to oneself and think of others more than yourself means. It's so easy to understand, it's the book most sold in the United States besides the Bible. I loved it and it's the first time that I see life with a heavenly perspective.
