Hey it's been awhile since I've posted anything regarding my own OCD in awhile. Lately my fear of getting a deadly disease and dying has been controlling my life. I even feared that there was anthrax in my mail so I don't check my mail anymore. My husband, my mother and my step-dad all make matters worse by making fun of my fears. I had to take my daughter to the doctor today because she has strep throat. I read a few days ago about deadly diseases in hospitals. So now I'm freaking out that one of us may have gotten that. I have bleached everywhere we have walked in my house even put bleach on my feet because I was wearing sandals at the hospital I have washed with antibacterial soap a few times but I don't feel clean I feel like it's not enough. Please pray that we didn't get anything while we were there and that none of us get strep throat and have to go back again.

The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

To be honest, the bleach may be the greater risk to your health. I would be careful about trying to kill germs that way. I wouldn't worry too much about strep throat, although that's something I've worried about myself in the past, too.

I have had obsessions over diseases. Mine is more revolved around cancer. I still think to this day I am going to die young. I think to be honest I have come to accept it. If I die I die lol.. I cant let this take power over me.

getting help for this struggle with OCD. Sounds like you are battling hard and need some intervention. As a child, I battled the obsession with germs primarily. Please seek some professional help if you haven't!

I was diagnosed several years ago with OCD so I understand you conserces.
I have been a lot better since seeking help from GOD and medication along with behavioral therapy help.
Let me ease your mind a little though. I am an assistant supervisor in the environmental services (housekeeping basically) department at a hospital. Worse job for me right? heh Anyways hospitals take great lengths at control germs. We go through many training on destroying the things that worry use the most. I come in contact everyday with antibiotic resistant organisms. We are trained not to infect other people with these things. If you visited an ER than you are safe. For one thing most people with dangerous disease are located in other parts of the hospital. If there was somebody in the ER with a potential case than all lengths of measure were taken to make the environment sterile for you and your family!!! Also a lot of dangerous diseases are a lot harder to contract than most people think. I feared one in particular for the longest time... but by learning much about it my fears have dissipated. If you have any questions about this situation please contact me and I will assure you that things are okay!!!

Also another things to remember that I have learned. Germs are everywhere and it is normal. Our bodies needs them. We build antibodies and learn how to fight off germs because of the contact between them. I never get sick and joke that I could survive anything because I believe I have a great immune system due to my presence around germs.
