VERY common. Saw such machines at yard sales, thrift stores, etc etc (used sales many places),i'm not gonna pay a tech to do anything LOL!

Why would it play DVD's just fine and mess up on CD's....it WAS playing CD's fine, then just stopped...VERY common. Saw such machines at yard sales, thrift stores, etc etc (used sales many places),

the radio still worked, but the electric eye or laser or whatever had already stopped (planned that way, and/or the weakest piece) ....
A few manufacturers make, or used to make, good solid products that would not fail so soon.

There are different possible answers. (1) The disc could be dirty and needs cleaning with a dry cloth. (2) The disc is flawed and simply will not play. Perhaps it is scratched? (3) The disc is set for a different region of the world, though usually when that happens the machine will tell you that such is the problem.
If you do that, be sure to wipe outward from the center and NOT parallel with the outside edge.You should still use a dry cloth to clean the disc,

DVD players also can play CD because they have 2 lasers. One is for DVD, one is CD. So something has dirtied or broken on the CD laser mechanism.Why does it still play DVD's ok?
