  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thanks for your input, everyone!

I have just checked Verizon's web site and according to it, DSL is not available in our area just yet. The price is certainly better though:

$14.95 for DSL
$49.95 for Cable Internet

We have adsl is Aus and in most capital cities we have cable too. Cable is a more reliable product and can be faster. Adsl and cable prices in Aus are excatly the same. I just got adsl so just had dialup before but we got speeds of up to 56 with that.

My connection on this computer right now is 49.2 which is great. It's usually 45.2 because it also runs throught the phone and also a call forwarding thing which will slow it a bit.

Still, this is very slow and I feel like it is such a waste of valuable time.

I know what u mean about a waste of time cos just waiting to bring up my emails or even just going from page to page in cf would take ages. With the adsl we just got we get up to 256kbp... its so much fun being able to do everything so much quicker :)

Either is really fine in most areas. The speed of DSL is effected by the distance you are away from the closest switch, but you will have guaranteed speeds that are pretty quick when you set up service.

Cable is not dependent on the distance from anything and is generally faster than DSL in most areas.

Go with the service that is going to give you the best deal. :) Play them against eachother if you can to get an even better discount.

ooopppss..

I thought the poll was about what we had.. not about what you should do..

IF I had a choice between the 2, I'd pick DSL.. But we live in the middle of the woods.. and our phone lines are too old in this area for DSL.. and there is no Cable TV out here..

We do have a satellite dish.. but to get their internet service, you need a "clear view of the southern sky" Too many pine trees..

We have broadband at work.. a T1 line.. and it is awesome..

We ended up getting cable internet. DSL isn't available in our area at this time.

Our cable company is working on getting cable phone service in our area. I noticed a billboard advertising a package they are offering in a neighboring city for Cable tv, Cable Internet and cable phone for $90. We're hoping the same package will be available to us.
