I have found in the past that Pro-Mark sticks have been of very good quality. I usually use a 5B or 7A. Lately though my Pro-Marks have been failing me. A pair a night. I must have gotten a bad batch. Ive used Vic Firth and they dont seem to last.

im extremely picky about my drumsticks, I usually can only find about 2 or 3 acceptable pairs out of a box of 12 pair. First test is roll them on a hard flat surface and make sure they are not warped. Second is the tap test- tap the acceptable ones from the first test and see if you get a tone match. Third look at the grain on the sticks and see how tight it is. Tighter grain means stronger sticks. Then go with american hickory nylon tip!

i use Zildjian 5A's. i must play the set really weak because i barely put dents in my sticks and no matter how hard i purposely bang my sticks, all i get are little scratches :sigh: no i havent broken anything. I have used Vic Firths as well. ive used their 5A's as well as their special made jazz drum sticks ( a modified version of a 5A, looks like 6A's) and they're nicer. but cost more :sigh:

I love Nylon tipped sticks, i think they sound the same as wood EXCEPT THEY SOUND WAY BETTER ON CYMBALS!!!!

Oh and the reason you havn't broken anything is because you prolly dont rimshot like I do. Tonight I shattered a brand new drumhead. I had just put a new head on it a couple weeks back and hadnt played it till tonight. split it 3 ways.

i too play really hard (sometimes it hurts :() i break sticks a lot but VFs still last me quite a while, but i have also never broken a head even though i play as hard as i can, ive put some nice dents in and have worn a few snare heads very thin, but theyve never broken, even doing a lot of rimshots, i think a lot of that has to do with the tightness of the head

I used to buy what ever was on sale in a thinner/jazz style size. I went through too many pairs to be picky. Only rule was they had to be wood tip.

Since I went to an electric kit (7 months ago) I haven't broken a stick yet!!!!!!! I just can't remember what kind of set they are right now. :)

Vic Firth 7a's with wood tips, when I'm not using mallets of some variety. I've never broken any, ever. Had a dog chew up one, though, and lost another, and had somebody else break mine when they were borrowing them, but not broken any myself. I'm not fond of playing on trap sets, though. Timps are my thing, and xylophones are fun, but I'll play snare when required and even (horrors) lower myself to a kit. ;)

IM SOO ANTI ON ELECTRONIC KITS!!!
Eh, they grow on you. I remember saying the exact same thing.

I have a 12 Piece Tama for an acoustic. I couldn't bring that to college or after when I was living in apartments. Plus it got real old lugging that thing around for years to all my gigs.

SO, I finally splurged and got the Electric. The brain is nasty and the drums feel/look like genuine drums. So the set up is actually great.

Yeah, That's what I say too. I mean, i still would choose an Acoustic over electric but, they do grow on you a bit. Although I have broken more sticks on the electric then i ever did on the Acoustic. I think it's because the cymbals don't "give". Like, you hit them and it's just solid, so if you hit them just right, your stick shatters.
