California Licensing Law Produces GOP Rage in Washington

Political opposition to the practice of handing out driver's licenses to illegal immigrants is growing in Washington, especially in light of a new law signed by California Democratic Gov. Gray Davis on Sept. 5.

Wednesday, less than a week after signing the law granting illegal immigrants in the nation's largest state the ability to obtain driver's licenses, Davis received a letter from all 19 Republicans representing California in the U.S. House condemning the action.

Politicians need a sound byte now and then as a diversion to things like spending $87 billion dollars that we don't have to prop up the second largest oil producing country in the world.

My my, aren't we outraged about those dirty illegal aliens. First they want employment benefits, education for their kids and now they want drivers licenses too.

Most illegal aliens in California pick the fruit and vegetables that you find, at a very reasonable price, in the supermarkets. They work very hard for very little money and we all benefit by having enormous amounts of food at a low cost. Our farmers not only want them here, but they need them here. When they are not allowed here the produce rots in the fields because there are no Americans willing to do the work, and when they do they want three times as much to do one half the work, which means our farmers cannot compete with foreign produce.

As a hard set Conservative Republican, I don't think this is a bad idea at all...

The problem is with law enforcement and government aid. It's much easier to regulate this sort of thing and keep tabs on the trouble makers if they have an identity.
