I just got through reading Driven By Eternity by John Bevere. Has anyone else read this?

I am a bit confused on how much I agree with his ideas in this book. I respect John Bevere greatly. I've seen him speak, read many of his book and listened to hours of audio. However his views in this book I cant say I agree with.

The Basics for those who dont know.

1)We were all put here for a reason, by god with a path before us.

2)On our journey through life God already knows who we will have a chance to bring to accept Jesus.

3)How faithful we are and how well we listen to the spirit will controll whether we reach the people god has planned for.

4)If we fail to follow out the plan, god will put someone else to complete the task.

5)When we die we stand before The Lord to account for our life.

6)God will know how many people we were planned to reach on our journey on earth, this will be the main thing we are judged on.

7)He states heaven will be a CLASS system. THose who served mighty will be placed closest to God. The ones furthest from God, will be those who were wishy washy Christians here on earth. He does go on to say that everyone will be grateful to be in heaven. We will be uncapable to feel jealousy as we do in our human bodies.

8)In heaven we will all be in the image of a 33 year old. The age of Jesus when he was crucified.

9)Pastors, priest, and men of god will be the most harshly Judged. They will have to account for every person they led astray by false teachings.

10)Even if you were the victom of false teachings, to bad, your going to hell.

11) He views heaven as a physical place. We will have houses (those closest to God will have the nicest houses), Jobs and even roads made of gold . He didnt mention anything about computers, sorry

THere is more, that's just some of the points I remember off the top of my head. He does back it all up by scripture, but I don't think some of his translations are accurate.

Over all its a good book that made some great points that makes you evaluate the type of CHristian you are. The over all message is, always ask if you are pleasing Jesus.

Well...THAT part is ok! ;) As for the rest...if you don't care (point 7) what difference will it make? The rest sounds a little...odd to me. :sorry:

Thanks for the review. I know what book I won't be reading.

Ditto. Sorry to the guy in the OP, but some of those things are not biblical.

Some are, but some are definately not.

This is why I'm not into reading outside books.

I'd keep a watch on that No.10 concerning what Bible (related?) books by men you read. Especially that we all will be age 33  I wanna be 19 forever!

Ha ha ha ha. Great response, that cracked me up. Yeah, you see one tv evangelist, you see them all.

What a damn shame that "winning souls" is all that we are given credit to by God. It kind of makes God out to be some Heavenly car salesman or real estate agent, where he rewards those workers who come up with the most sales.

Never mind for the average Joe/Jane husband and wife who have led upright lives, have provided for themselves and their families, and who have been faithful to the chuch. Never mind if you've been a great dad or mum to your kids, the bottom line is "how many souls did you win?"

Never mind all those faithful people who have shown love and respect to all throughout their lives.

Gosh, never mind Mother Teresa either for she did not evangelise. Poor sap of a woman, what good did she do but feed the hungry, clothe the cold and naked and care for the sick? Boy, did she get it wrong. God will not be a happy deity with her.

Yeah, like I said. You see one tv evangelist (especially AOG, Pentecostal/Charismatic), you see them all. Shallow, fundamentalist dogmatic, obsessed with "submitting to authority" (namely them), money grubbing and..........gosh, did I mention shallow?

Ahh maybe he is onto something. He did not make it a point that we must evangelize.

In the case of Mother Teresa, she did touch many through her goodness. I am sure she brought many to God through actions. In his book, he used an example of someone who touched people many ways that way as well.

He also used the example of an accountant who helped chruches as well.

Sorry if I made it sound as if through Evangelism only. John Bevere is very wise, controversial at times. I do not take what he says ever as Prophetic by any means. He does have some wonderful teachings however. Bait Of Satan being his most popular and one of the wisest book ever writen.

Like I said in my original post, I did not agree with everything the book said, but much of it does make sense.

I think I would have to question you about this. For sure, Mother Teresa "touched" many by her goodness, however, this did not necessarily lead her to winning people for Christ. In fact, Mother Teresa has been quoted many times as saying that she is not necessarily winning people for Christ, but that her actions encourage people to be a better person within their own faith whether Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu etc. Mother Teresa was not an evangelist.

As far as the great John Bevere being very "wise", yeah, well.....I watched his program once. Gosh, he is really a control freak, the way he goes on and on about submitting to the church leaders. And then he "preached" about how the senior leader in the church has the final say, over and above the other leaders and board members.

He even went so far as to say that the apostle James was the leader of Paul and the rest of the apostles and how he had the final word. Yeah right, not in any Bible I've read. I mean, seriously, coming up with this belief so that he can ram home his message of you must all submit to me, the great John Bevere.

It's a shame he has never read Paul's instruction about the qualifications of a leader. He would have to sack his own wife as a "pastor". Yeah right, make up all this stuff and make sure everyone is in fear of him and his mighty "authority" and then go against scripture and have his wife running around being a leader over men.

Which I personally don't have an issue with, but it's pretty clear when you read Paul's words that a woman can't be a pastor.

The great John Bevere.

BlackSabb his wife runs a womans ministry I thought?

I beleive the word of his you are refering to is from Bait Of Satan, which the over all message was very wise. The point of the whole thing was to let go of offense, or you it will result in you sinning. If the church elders force something on you, the worse thing you can do is get offended and leave the church or hold a grudge. Have faith in God that he will set these elders straight.

The example he uses where he does not confront his Senior Pastor, and instead prayed for this pastor to be blessed with Gods wisdom and prayed to have the strength to forgive this pastor was perfect. I think that story ended with the Senior Pastor being dismissed by the church for much greater offenses. God took care of it in his own way and it didnt result in John Bevere getting a hardened heart.

Offense = anger = hardend heart = lack of the Holy spirit.

If you have ever talked with Indians who have converted, you would know what impact her "non-evangelization" had on converting people to Christianity.
