Someone once said that if a person really 'sees something', there would be no need to share it. When a person tells everyone they 'saw something', it's usually a bunch of nonsense and they are looking for attention or to push their own ideas using the story...

Mark Driscoll creeps me out. I don't know what it is but I don't see him as a true anointed man of God.

Mark Driscoll defends his use of offensive and inappropriate language during his sermon - YouTube

A friend gave me that sermon series. There wasn't any offensive language, though I would say his interpretation is way off, he makes a lot of subtle remarks about his wife essentially being a cheater, and talks about sexual activities that are not sex, which I am not sure is a fit subject for church.

I have no doubt he sees things but the question is...are they of God? According to scripture they are not. He is a wolf among the sheep.

I must repent for posting Driscoll's videos or quotes on the net.

Please forgive me.

I will not forgive you until you recite 3 Hail Marys and an Our Father. And send me some money.

As to Driscoll, remember how easily we can be corrupted by power and let's try not to think it can't happent to us. I know given sufficient cash and adulation I could easily do worse. The biggest culprit here are the thousands of followers who made an idol of Driscoll in their hearts. We are all idol factories, and the fall of men from excessive adulation is a very old story.

JR the humblest among you, who can not be corrupted by the adulation of others, because he already thinks even more highly of himself than any one else, ;]

When someone we put up on a pedestal falls they are never the one who gets hurt.

his manner of speaking seems odd... when people who thought they got away with horrible sins
adultery, child molestation!
when these people get found out they will normally deny it
his manner of speaking is so nonchalant....

does God give visions to people at times?
I would say yes

but this does not seem godly

If this guy really has information about the various events that he is describing, then he should obviously report it to the police so that a case can be opened, and evaluated by the prosecutor from criminal prosecution. I am disturbed that Driscoll thinks that it is sufficient to have sit-down counseling sessions with the victim-witnesses and perpetrators and that the problem will be "solved" after being handled in this manner by the Domine.

This is how institutions like the Catholic Church and Penn State get in trouble -- learning a few details about serious crime, and not referring it to the police and prosecutors for proper disposition. Driscoll's Youtube video talks about child molestation -- such a thing has no limitation period for punishment. And even if it did, the molestor could be referred to social services for rehabilitation. At the very least, the community could take steps to separate the offender from other potential victims.

Instead, Driscoll does nothing about the information he possesses, except to have sit-down counseling sessions, and brag about his abilities. To repeat, the police need to get involved when there is information about a disruption to the peace and safety of the community. Potentially, certain offenders should taste community retribution. What Driscoll has done is not enough. Query whether, as a Pastor, he is a "mandatory reporter" under the laws of the State of Washington with respect to the crimes that he is describing.

He should definitely make himself available to testify in court with his information against these criminals. He never once describes interaction with the police, depositions, affidavits in support of arrest and search. How can he be a responsible member of the community if he knows about all of this crime and he does absolutely nothing except do amateur gumshoe work, speaking to offenders, not documenting anything, and letting crime go uninvestigated and unpunished by the People of the State of Washington?

He seems to have a lot of criticisms about the People of the State of Washington (unconverted, unevangelized, pagan, etc.) but surely the People have more interest in the peace, safety, and harmony of the community than he does, as evidenced by the fact that he is untroubled and unmotivated to actually do anything about what he knows. The Good Pastor should speak to the Lawyer Prosecutor representing the People.

Pastors should stay out of the whole counseling gig IMO, if they entertain it, they should always have someone with them, preferably their spouse.

All of this brings to mind Doug Phillips and the Vision Forum which I am surprised didn't garner a thread detailing the news. Like Driscoll, disappointing.
