  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am a college student, and I drink for pleasure now and then. Is that bad?

P.S. I am drunk right now. But I just am so intimate with my personal feelings, that it doesnt' matter. I love everyone here!

Hello to all my brothers and sisters! I hope you find everlasting peace. I think of you as my family.

No, it isn't.

Well, almost all Christians would agree that that is bad. We believe that it is a sin to become drunk. However, I certainly don't intend to judge you for this, I am only pointing this out because I'm guessing you wanted to know the Christian opinion on drunkenness.

Jesus didnt drink anything that was made from fruit of the vine. He was a nazirite. do not confuse this with a nazerene, which he also was.

A nazirite is a person who totally dedicates his life to God. They do not drink or eat from the fruit of the vine, and no blade touches the hair on their head.

It could be said that Samson was a nazirite, which is why he lost his God-granted physical strength when his head was shaved

ohh i see.. well, i still think it's ok to drink. i believe there have been versus in the Bible about drinking wine.. i know there have. :)
LOL. Do you ever use a lexicon by any chance?

http://www.eliyah.com/lexicon.html

wine occurs 231 times in 212 verses:

(Young) 1 Timothy 5:23 no longer be drinking water, but a little wine be using, because of thy stomach and of thine often infirmities;

(Young) Ephesians 5:18 and be not drunk with wine, in which is dissoluteness, but be filled in the Spirit,

Well, since you are asking about the Biblical perspective on alcohol, I found these:

Scripture does not necessarily forbid a Christian from drinking beer, wine, or any other drink containing alcohol. Christians are commanded to avoid drunkenness:
"Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit." (Ephesians 5:18)
.
The Bible condemns drunkenness and its effects:
Who has woe? Who has sorrow?
Who has strife? Who has complaints?
Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?

Those who linger over wine,
who go to sample bowls of mixed wine.

Do not gaze at wine when it is red,
when it sparkles in the cup,
when it goes down smoothly!

In the end it bites like a snake
and poisons like a viper.

Your eyes will see strange sights
and your mind imagine confusing things.

You will be like one sleeping on the high seas,
lying on top of the rigging.

"They hit me," you will say, "but I'm not hurt!
They beat me, but I don't feel it!
When will I wake up
so I can find another drink?" (Proverbs 23:29-35)
Christians are also commanded to not allow their bodies to be “mastered” by anything:
"Everything is permissible for me"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"—but I will not be mastered by anything. (1 Corinthians 6:12).
So it seems that although the drinking of alcohol is not forbidden (at least not in modderation), it isn't necessarily considered to be beneficial. It would be extremely difficult for any Christian to say they are drinking alcohol to the glory of God:
"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."(1 Corinthians 10:31).

PS: Are you still drunk???

oh i've never seen that site.. but i bookmarked it.. looks like an awesome site. :)
It uses the "inaccurate" KJV so it is best to click on the strong's numbers most time.

Go here and set this up for multi-tranlations and it is even more awsome.

It will bring up a lexicon on the bottom for each verse lookup. [click on options, enter, then multiple versions, enter, then hold control key down when higlighting more then one version to bring them up at all one time if you like, and oila!

My body is never comprimised by my consciousness. :) I have never gotten to the point where I can't control what I do, or say.
Well, despite you describing yourself as 'drunk', your posts were concise and coherent - so you must have been in control of you faculties ...;)

No, drinking is not bad - but of course in moderation.

And what I mean by that is, that if you felt the need to be drunk every day, then you might consider stopping.

You are a student, I was a student and for pretty much all of my degree, fun was comencing :D
But of course it didn't interfear with my work, so it was cool.
