In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I never heard of this guy but happened upon one of his videos on youtube. I read that he is a writer, speaker and well known catholic Theologian. His education and credentials looked solid. Some a few years back called him a heretic and schismatic relating to his comments regarding Pope Francis. Fast forward 3 or 4 years and maybe not so.

But here is his resume so to speak:

Dr. Kelly Bowring is a Catholic theologian and popular Catholic speaker, who received his doctorate from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Rome); his licentiate from the Dominican House and the John Paul II Institute (Washington DC) while working at the US Bishops Office; and his masters from Franciscan University of Steubenville (Ohio). He has the Church’s mandatum to teach theology.

Dr. Bowring has been a dean, chair, and professor of theology at the Graduate School of Theology at St. Charles Seminary, Southern Catholic College, and St. Mary’s College of Ave Maria University.

Any thoughts?

He may be connected to Fr. Thomas Weinandy. I noticed they both had been associated with the Dominican House of Studies in Washington DC. My wild guess is that they know each other.

Fr. Thomas Weinandy was the theologian who lost his job in 2017 after complaining in an open letter about the chronic confusion of pope Francis.

Just because Mr. Bowring attended the "Dominican House of Studies" does not make him an "associate" of Fr. Weinandy. What kind of silly logic is that? Bowring staunchly follows a fake, con artist mystic named "Mary Carberry" aka "Maria Divine Mercy." Everything about her deplorable scam can be found as a matter of public information [google search "midway street Mary carberry"].

For any practicing Catholics who might be concerned, Mr. Bowring is not a faithful representative of Catholic doctrine. The following comment was posted on his latest Youtube video. He has yet to address the concerns in the comment:

Kelly Bowring teaches a protestant heresy. He claims on his website [and in most of his videos] that during a future, thousand year period, God will provide Christians with the opportunity for a "spiritual, mystical reign." He claims that this time is to occur before the Beatific Vision. Bowring claims that for a thousand years there will be no "pain" associated with childbirth. He also claims there will be "no more physical death" for families and their offspring. Read Bowring's own words, as published originally on his website:

"All on earth will dwell in mystical union with Christ and the Saints in the perfection of earthly though not yet beatific happiness... and we will continue to have earthly families and offspring now born without labor pain ... All will live in love of God and neighbor, with no more physical death, sin or sorrow, and no more spiritual or bodily evils, all united in everlasting peace… and each person in the New Kingdom will eventually enter the Beatific Vision as their earthly life comes to an end."

To claim--as Kelly Bowring does--that there will be a time on earth before the Beatific Vision when there will be no "pain" or "physical death" is certainly at odds with what Sacred Catholic Tradition has always taught. Only the physical humanity of Jesus Christ--and the physical humanity of the Virgin Mary--are free from the 'mortal defects' of Original Sin! All other humans who come to exist through the physical act of sexual generation inherit the 'mortal defects' of Original Sin. There is no exception to this! There can never be a "thousand years" when Christians will sexually reproduce without passing on the consequences of Original Sin to their offspring! Kelly Bowring's heretical teaching echoes what the Jehovah's Witnesses believe. But according to the Sacred Tradition of the Catholic Church, this is a form of Chiliasm or Millenarianism albeit in a modified form. Catholicism rejects even modified versions of Chiliasm or Millenarianism. (See Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraph 676; also: Denzinger-Schonmetzer 3839 [Denzinger 2296 in the "old numbering"]).

For any practicing Catholics who might be concerned, Mr. Bowring is not a faithful representative of Catholic doctrine. The following comment was posted on his latest Youtube video. He has yet to address the concerns in the comment:

Mr. Bowring, you mix truth with grave error in the following way. You claim on your website that there will be opportunity during a future, thousand year period, for a "spiritual, mystical reign." You say that this era is to occur BEFORE the Beatific Vision, and that there will be no "pain" associated with "labor" and that there will be "no more physical death" for earthly families and their offspring.

*Here is Bowring's full quote: "All on earth will dwell in mystical union with Christ (and the Saints) in the perfection of earthly (though not yet beatific) happiness... and we will continue to have earthly families and offspring (now born without labor pain)... All will live in love of God and neighbor, with no more physical death, sin or sorrow, and no more spiritual or bodily evils, all united in everlasting peace… and each person in the New Kingdom will eventually enter the Beatific Vision as their earthly life comes to an end."

To claim--as you do--that there will be a time on earth BEFORE the Beatific Vision when there will be no "pain" or physical death" is absolutely at odds with Catholic Dogma. Only the Sacred Humanity of Jesus Christ (and also that of His Immaculate Mother) are free from the 'mortal defects' of Original Sin! ALL OTHER HUMANS born on earth are subject to the 'mortal defects' of Original Sin. There is no exception! Mr. Bowring, you promote a form of Chiliasm or Millenarianism, albeit in a "modified" form, which the Catholic Church explicitly rejects (see Catechism of the Catholic Church 676; also: Denzinger-Schonmetzer 3839 [Denzinger 2296 in the "old numbering"]). Mr. Bowring, your opinion also contradicts sound Catholic doctrine concerning the utter uniqueness of Mary's Immaculate Conception. Repent and convert of your grave error, Mr. Bowring! Please offer public reparation for your false mystic named "Mary Carberry" who has already been exposed as a corrupt fraud! (aka "Maria Divine Mercy").

You style yourself after the noble archbishop Vigano, but that doesn't make you him.

And you apparently have a bone to pick with Mr. Bowring, so you launch against my "silly logic". Well, I proposed a hunch, which I even called a "wild guess", based on their being in the same relatively small place at around the same time, that they MIGHT know each other. I did not call them "associates" but mentioned that both had an association with the Dominican House of Studies. If you know otherwise, that they have never met, or something else useful, state it. But I'd rather your vitreol against whoever "Mary Carberry" is not be spilled out onto me. Just sayin'.

You say that I "believe" that I am "Vigano" because my own username happens to be "Vigano." Following your line of thinking, is it safe to say that you believe you are a "Chevy"?

"You apparently have a bone to pick with Mr. Bowring, so you launch against my silly logic."

You said that they may "know each other" and may be "connected" based on the premise that the two men occupied the same "relatively small place at around the same time." This "wild guess" of yours is a logical fallacy, is it not? Are the classic rules of logical syllogisms no longer relevant in today's Twitter culture of communication? For charity and humility's sake, you ought to admit that you have been rash to lead others to believe that Fr. Thomas Weinandy is personally "connected" or "associated" with another theologian who formally teaches heresy.

"I'd rather your vitreol against whoever 'Mary Carberry' is not be spilled out onto me. Just sayin."
Mary Carberry has been exposed by the government of her native country (Ireland) as one who takes advantage of the simple piety of Christians to turn an easy profit. This is a matter of public data that anybody can obtain from a quick google search. My citation of public information is hardly "vitriolic" behavior.

If I am saying anything unjust, or objectively evil, or false, feel free to flag my post for spreading calumny and disinformation. Otherwise, you should consider the possibility that other Christians can potentially be led astray by the subversive activities of this phony mystic named 'Mary Carberry.' I also invite you entertain the real possibility that you are not the epicenter of the publicly accessible internet.

Some a few years back called him a heretic and schismatic relating to his comments regarding Pope Francis. Fast forward 3 or 4 years and maybe not so.

But here is his resume so to speak:

Any thoughts?

What follows is a brief history of Miss Carberry's scam: Carberry opened her website of visions in March 2011 working from her home in upscale Malahide, north of Dublin. In four years she accumulated millions of followers and more than 400,000 Facebook "likes." As an anonymous and completely internet-based operation, the 59-year-old former public relations consultant found special favor in the United States, continental Europe, and third world countries such as Nigeria and the Philippines. She published three volumes of visions with a fourth anticipated when she unexpectedly shut down her website. The surprise departure was likely influenced by exposure in a serious of articles in the 1 February 2015 Irish Mail on Sunday. Investigative reporter Michael O'Farrell managed to record comments from Carberry that were scientifically matched to the voice of the woman who claimed to be "Maria Divine Mercy" during an interview with a US Catholic radio program broadcast in October 2011. A week later, the Irish Mail pictured Carberry on Page One hauling hundreds of copies of the previous Sunday 'exposure' edition. Security cameras caught Carberry in early morning hours at a number of newspaper vendors attempting damage control in her North Dublin community. Carberry's closure of her companion website and Facebook pages earned another full-page notice in the Irish Mail on Sunday's March 29 edition. Carberry's vision quest was detailed in the book "The Outing of Mary Carberry," that posted online in early January, the work of a team of Catholic bloggers. The book included copies of business documents linking Mary Carberry - using her maiden name McGovern - with "Maria" business partners millionaire retired Irish dentist Breffni Cully and German national Heinrich Martin Roth, who utilized unattended mail drops for business addresses. Carberry's daughter and son are also implicated with management and web design and maintenance. Maria Divine Mercy's messages - issued almost daily - spoke of end time events, false prophets and the emergence of the anti-Christ with assurances to followers that by wearing her magic medal they would be protected during the tribulation and transition into a thousand years of peace. Medals sold in packages of 25 at $1 each. Her messages were condemned by Dublin Archbishop Diarmuid Martin during Easter week last year. Still, the Dublin seer lost no speed continuing her operation that included seminars in more than six countries offered by her Irish business partner Breffni Cully using the name Joseph Gabriel. The sudden shut down of the MDM operation came while Cully was in the Philippines conducting MDM seminars with Australian Tony Murnane. With the initial website closure on March 20, MDM's closest followers and Facebook administrators quickly assured followers this was a sign that the end was near and that future messages would be communicated through the official Facebook page - Jesus to Mankind. The following week that Facebook page closed and followers initiated several alternative websites and Facebook pages that disappeared with days. There is no direct explanation for the apparent closure of the MDM enterprise. Irish Mail on Sunday investigative reporter Michael O'Farrell reached Carberry at her Malahide home on 26 March for comment on the new developments. The door was shut in his face. During a late January in-person contact with Carberry, O'Farrell recorded several comments. Carberry was quoted saying, "I was only doing a job for someone" and "If you want to believe this s--t, you can." The nature of the "job" and the "someone" were not identified. Carberry was well-known in Ireland's media world, owning her own public relations business McGovern PR before embarking on a number of other business ventures. While her $ million-plus home was threatened with foreclosure, Carberry, using the name Mary Egan, offered her public relations talent, free of charge, to Irish "psychic" Joe Coleman. Years later Coleman wrote, "In 2009 this lady came along. Never knew her from Adam. She decided to promote me with my work as she knew all the media people out there. She was Mary McGovern. Then she was Mary Egan. Then she was Maria Divine Mercy. So this is where it stopped with me." Carberry, who claimed to be an angel sent by God and the Last Prophet of all time, lived in the same community of Malahide where another Irish visionary claimed residence -- Christina Gallagher. Gallagher managed a 20-year vision career later exposed in a book by Sunday World reporter Jim Gallagher. Carberry's messages matched Christina's vision business with medals, seals, prayer groups and favors for followers. The MDM messages also took content from Medjugorje, Australia's "Little Pebble," the Magnificat Meal Movement, and other "visionaries" both approved and unapproved by the Catholic Church. Using only the internet for communications and never identifying herself as other than as a European business woman with children, she was largely unknown in her own country. In 2013 an international research team formed to discover the identity of the mysterious angel-prophet. Their research was published in several MDM exposure websites and earlier this year in book form.

Regarding your comments about me on this post:

I am in good standing as a Catholic theologian. I am currently, and there is no time I have not been.

I have the mandatum. I have not been corrected by any Bishop or Cardinal for my teachings ever, or for any other matter. Publicly or privately.

Additionally, I have the highest written official (signed on letterhead) letters of recognition from Cardinals of the Church (including from highest level of the Vatican) for all of my 3 books on Catholic end-time prophecy and the signs of the times. One of these Cardinals went on to place all three of my prophecy books in the very hands of Pope Benedict.

I have publicly mentioned previously that I have these letters of recognition, but I have not shared them with many people, for prudential reasons. (Though I was never told I could not share them publicly.)

Thanks

Dear Mr. Bowring:

To this day, you continue to promote the literature and beliefs of a woman named "Mary Carberry" who publishes under the pseudonym "Maria Divine Mercy." Yet, Dr. Miravalle, a wellknown professor of Mariology at Franciscan University of Steubenville, has already written about the heretical nature of this woman's claims: New Advent: A closer look at the false prophecies of Maria Divine Mercy

Moreover, a lay group of journalists recently exposed Mary Caryberry as being involved in a criminal ponzi scheme. Their research is available on public domain: Outed!

In addition, Mary Carberry's own ecclesial authority (the Archbishop of Dublin, Ireland) issued an official statement on the diocesan website: "Many of the texts written under the pseudonym "Maria Divine Mercy" are "in contradiction with Catholic theology." "These messages should not be promoted or made use of within Catholic Church associations." Statement on Maria Divine Mercy | Archdiocese of Dublin

Mr. Bowring, these facts raise a few questions. As a lay Catholic not wanting to be misguided, I hope you would charitably answer them:

Why do you not address the serious academic concerns raised by Dr. Miravalle regarding the ideas of "Maria Divine Mercy/Mary Carberry"? Isn't this what any good standing theologian would do? Perhaps it is true as you say that you are in possession of a 'secret' approval letter written by an anonymous 'Cardinal,' but that does not erase the theological issues published by the trustworthy Dr. Miravalle.

Why do you passively insist that the laity ought to ignore the directive issued by the Archbishop of Dublin? You do this by continually promoting the messages of "Maria Divine Mercy" contrary to the express wish of the Archbishop.

If you indeed have a mandate to teach theology in the name of the Church, who is the current bishop that granted it to you? I ask this because in one of your recent Youtube videos, you claim that you are currently employed as a Truck Driver. Forgive me, but this is rather odd. (Especially since you claim to have the official, Ecclesiastical approval to teach in a particular Catholic diocese).
