What does the Syrian government have to win with gas attacks, when conventional military means seem to work just fine?

On the other hand, what do the (literal) al'qaeda types in the opposition have to win by faking a gas attack, or even shooting a rocket at their own positions (hey, the victims will be martyrs for the faith!)?

I don't trust anyone anymore (-_-), but here the Syrian government seems marginally more trustworthy than the opposition.

Death count is up to hundreds if not thousands from whatever it is the dog, ill-named Bashar al-Assad, had released.

The images are horrible. So horrible.

I'm devastated beyond belief.

I'm including some short videos of a few victims. I apologize if this is not allowed on the forums. If it isn't, I'll remove them.

Such distressing videos. As everyone throughout the Muslim world keeps saying, including the above videos, "hasbunAllaahu wa ni3mal wakeel" - 'Allaah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us).'

O Allaah, Revealer of the Book, Swift at reckoning, defeat the confederates. O Allaah, defeat them and convulse them. O Allaah, grant the Muslims around the world patience and tranquility. O Allaah, grant the believers victory wherever they may be. O Allaah, relieve the world of all of the oppressors. O Allaah, accept our dead into the highest levels of Paradise as martyrs. O Allaah, there is none worthy of worship except for You and we ask for help only from You. O Allaah, bestow upon us Your Mercy for we are ruined without it. Ameen.

Horrible, yes. :(

I'm becoming more of a non-interventionist every day. Not "our" problem as a nation.

This is taking place in a part of the world that seems to be historically in an almost constant state of war with its own people. (from the far outside looking in) I feel as if there is really nothing we can do about it, so we should stay out of it.

The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him, said something at the death of his young child that can be said here:

"The eyes are shedding tears and the heart is grieved, and we will not say except what pleases our Lord"

Verily to Allaah we belong and to Him we return.

Yes this was already posted some time ago. :) Here

No....your thread was posted hours after this thread was started.

But anyways, I'm still sick to my stomach about what has happened in Syria. I can't imagine how fearful they must be.

I believe this little girl is convulsing, foaming at the mouth, and her eyes are rolling back.

"Experts who have examined the first video footage of the immediate aftermath of the attack on people on the outskirts of Damascus Wednesday morning believe it shows the most compelling evidence yet consistent with the use of a lethal toxic agent."

"Their mouths were foaming, their pupils were constricted, and those who were brought in while still alive could not draw their breaths and died subsequently," he told the Associated Press via Skype. "The skin around their eyes and noses was greyish."

Visible symptoms reported included rolling eyes, foaming at the mouth, and tremors. There was at least one image of a child suffering miosis, the pin-point pupil effect associated with the nerve agent sarin, a powerful neurotoxin reportedly used before in Syria.

This conflict is evil vs. evil. Innocents are caught in the middle. Entire Christian villages are being wiped out by the insane rebels, while the government forces kill with reckless abandon. Disgusting. I cannot believe we are going to get our hands dirty and step into this madness.

Syrian rebels used Sarin nerve gas, not Assad’s regime: U.N. official

By Shaun Waterman

The Washington Times Monday, May 6, 2013

Testimony from victims strongly suggests it was the rebels, not the Syrian government, that used Sarin nerve gas during a recent incident in the revolution-wracked nation, a senior U.N. diplomat said Monday.

I don't know who did it but: Why isn't anyone giving mouth to mouth resuscitation? I went nuts the other night watching video after video where someone puts an oxygen mask over a child's face for a few seconds and then takes it away. They are rubbing the chests. It's the chests that are unable to move. The children are alive but paralyzed. If someone would just breathe for them. HELLO!!! Same with the ambu bag, a few seconds and then they take it away and start rubbing the chest. Good grief. And praying over the awake child will scare them to death. I couldn't believe it.

There were many needless deaths because with all of the talk of chemical attacks it looks like the hospitals did nothing to prepare at all. A few more oxygen tanks and ambu bags and ventilators and endotracheal tubes are just basic. Oh my goodness. There should have been personnel on call for emergencies. Where was the Atropine, the people to start IVs. So much needless death.

I kind of agree with Katsung. I think we maybe are being lied to for the purpose of attacking Syria.

Rebels Admit Responsibility for Chemical Weapons Attack |
Infowars akaDarya
August 30, 2013 - Rebels Admit Responsibility for Chemical Weapons Attack - Militants tell AP reporter they mishandled Saudi-supplied chemical weapons, causing accident

Syrian rebels in the Damascus suburb of Ghouta have admitted to Associated Press journalist Dale Gavlak that they were responsible for last week’s chemical weapons incident which western powers have blamed on Bashar Al-Assad’s forces, revealing that the casualties were the result of an accident caused by rebels mishandling chemical weapons provided to them by Saudi Arabia.
“From numerous interviews with doctors, Ghouta residents, rebel fighters and their families….many believe that certain rebels received chemical weapons via the Saudi intelligence chief, Prince Bandar bin Sultan, and were responsible for carrying out the (deadly) gas attack,” writes Gavlak.

Rebels told Gavlak that they were not properly trained on how to handle the chemical weapons or even told what they were. It appears as though the weapons were initially supposed to be given to the Al-Qaeda offshoot Jabhat al-Nusra.

I seriously doubt that any UN representative, acting in an official capacity, would have said the things alleged on this thread. The UN had not even issued an offical statement yet on whether chemical weapons were used, much less who released them:

UN inspectors conduct "wide range" of probes in Syria: spokesman

"...The UN inspectors have taken the samples to The Hague and will be moved to two laboratories in Europe, Nesirky said. The spokesman vowed that the UN inspectors will conduct " impartial and credible" assessments on whether chemical weapons were used in the Syrian conflict..."

This heresay testimony by anonymous so-called "rebels", with no substantiating physical evidence, is the sort of urban legend one would expect to be circulating around now. Meanwhile, Assad had been exposed with damning evidence, the most obvious being that he shelled the atrocity site with unprecedented ferocity for four days after the fact, to destroy evidence.

Can I hear a great big "DUH!"?
