• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

...there are mods who are in charge of moderating this forum who have never actually posted in here. Never. So what's up with that?

I have only seen two mods active in this forum, and one of them is no longer on staff. Where's the mods? I'm confused. I am in this forum every single day and I post actively and I am doing well on my path to recovery. Sure, I haven't been here for over a year, but at least I would be here, posting and helping! :( Sorry, I'm just having a bad day and it sort of bums me.

It's just that if you're going to moderate an Eating Disorders forum, it would be logical that you would be an active poster and somehow involved, whether you are in recovery, or recovered. Hmm. This will probably get closed. Oh well. Don't hate me. :)

EDIT: I just wanted to add that goldenviolet and music4hymn both do/did awesome work in this forum, I'm not saying they aren't/didn't do their jobs properly!!! Argh.

/me backs out of the thread

I do need to appologize for not being more active.

I'm not giving excuses, but I am pretty buzy (not an excuse cause I could always cut forums).

Thanks for the reminder. Sometimes I need to be nudged to post more in the forums...

Thankyou so much for your reply. I was just confused and thought I would bring it up. I'm sure you are very busy and I understand that. I hope I didn't sound rude. :sorry:

I assume you are not directing this to me as I was just added to ALL Recovery forums and since I also moderate in General Theology and The Ancient Way which are very busy forums then I assume that members here understand that there is NO WAY I can actively post in every single Recovery Forum.

The Recovery Area needed more female staff.

I am a therapist by training and have 18 years experience and therefore felt that it would be good for me to agree to help out when I could in these areas.

But I don't think it is realisitc or fair to expect staff to be posting a lot in all of the Recovery Forums.

I am really bummed to see this thread.

being involved behind the scenes is just as important as in the scene. so really, there is alot of care in the CF ministery. i'm out infront more, but i know it's because i was before i became a mod. i know mods pray over their forums and members too. behind the scenes alot is going on, everyday.

Thanks for your replies guys. I know heaps goes on behind the scenes, but it is nice to see mods posting in threads and stuff - I guess it gives a sense of security, that they are there and watching over everything. I dont' mean you have to post heaps and heaps in forums, I know that people are active in other forums and have a busy life etc, but just since I started posting in this forum, I only recall seeing a couple of mods and I was wondering about this. I thought perhaps you could mod a forum but not have to be a participant in it. Just wondering how everything worked.

I think this thread is good, I mean already it has achieved so much. Someone once told me you can never ask too many questions. I had a problem, I asked a question, I got support, I got answers. This thread is serving it's purpose and I thank you guys for replying in the way that you have done. :)

you now, i was going to stay out.....i do not like uprisings. but i believe if you are going to moderate a forum, especially like this, you should not be struggling, and eating more than one meal a day.............. IMHO

Are you saying that I shouldn't have been a mod for the 8 months that I was an ED mod?

Mod Hat

I am concerned that this thread is going to become more hostile and less charitable than a Christian Forums thread in "Recovery" should be.

Being kind to others and chariable is important. Let's be supports for one another not stumbling stones.

*puts on a big hat made of fruits and vegis*
*MOD HAT ON*
we are varying off topic into personal issues.
the topic is that the ED forum is wondering why current mods aren't seen more participating.
*MOD HAT OFF*
*eats hat*

actually i wondered if the post of not struggling with ED was diected at me. i have been struggling with ED since i was 3. my parents were into drugs and i ate alot of garbage. garbage from the garbage. my grandma use to sneak me food. by the time i was 7 i ate without swallowing. i just ate to hide the food. i ate out of the garbage alot. so, i learned to hate food. somewhere along the line my dad started calling me fat and ugly. people commented on my strange eating habits. eventually i became ana. i haven't been ana for almost 10 years. i love to eat... but i still struggle with awkward feelings about food and my image (my shape). everyday it'a a struggle within my mind to decide to eat and not think trauma. helping others with ED helps me actually. it helps me not feel alone. it helps me see how far i have come. it helps me reach out to others like me.
so, really i am recovered. however recovery for me doesn't ease my memories. they are a temptation. plus it is good to have a mod *beams* that understands and is knowledgeable about EDs. i was treated along side many other types of EDs in the hospital.

It's hard with moderating a forum like this because, I mean, in my opinion, you are never really fully recovered. In fact, I don't think I would be able to moderate because to me, I would feel like a hypocrit trying to help people when I myself am struggling. I guess that's what make Mods in this forum, who have struggled or who are currently struggling with an ED, that much more special - the fact that they are able to seperate their ED feelings and put them aside and not let it interfere in their moderating ... ness...?

But I agree with Denise to some extent, they should be confident enough to know that they will be able to moderate without struggling or confusing their feelings. I haven't seen any moderator who hasn't been encouraging and seemingly at a stable place in their recovery. :)

I can see both sides of this.. i guess like us who are struggling want sumone to be there for us, who is confident in themselves and that we arent going to make them struggle more with their ed or wateva... but at the same time we like that fact that that person 'the mod' knows exactly how were feeling and has been there...
so.. i guess to solve problems we have at least one of each. lol
