• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I just wanted to let everyone know who is trying to quit smoking to not give up quitting. I smoked for over 15 years. I was to the point that I knew I should quit, but I enjoyed it too much to really want to. I prayed that God would take the desire away from me to smoke, because it was bigger than me. After a time, I tapered off, then quit, then started, then quit, etc.
I am now to the point that even if I try to start smoking again (i did try hard to smoke again, out of habit), I can't stand the taste of it! I can be around others who do, and I have absolutely no desire to smoke a cigarette, and haven't for many months.
Praise God!
So, DON'T GIVE UP!;)

Yeah, I've been trying off and on. My wife is the main reason why I'm quitting. She doesn't want me doing it. She's one of those people that can just drop a habit without a second thought.
Anyway, I'm chewing that NASTY :o Nicorette gum, and I haven't had a cigarrette since December 1st.
I know, I know...that's nothing, but I'm glad I'm not CRAVING one. To tell you the truth, I hate the smell. I think the only reason why I did smoke is because it gave me time to think and I liked watching the smoke. Sounds crazy, doesn't it? :help:

No not at all...i used to think and watch the smoke too...i used to do a lot of thinking that way. now i do my best thinking in front of the computer and if i am in the living room with my family, i took up crocheting to keep my hands busy...(lol i don't know too many guys that crochet, though :)
God will take your desire away completely if you ask Him to, but it may not be overnight. My husband is the same way. He wanted me to quit in the worst way, he used to nag me about it. The more he nagged, the more I smoked (which wasn't right either)
I remember as a child, (about seven years old), being at church in a big circle of other kids. They asked if we had any prayer requests. I spoke up and said that I wanted my grandpa to quit smoking, so they prayed for that among other things.
It wasn't until at least ten years later that he did quit, cold turkey. He smoked heavily for over fifty years, camel non-filters to boot!
So, pray and don't give up!

Everything about smoking is weird after we quit but while we're smokers;it's just the way it is. I'm at about 9 months with no cigs. Holiday will be smoke free for my kids and wife. I sense we're all in the same boat though here.

I quit for 20yrs then I started up again...well it was hard to give them up again so I smoked for 5 more years...then 3yrs ago on Easter I went to the altar and gave them to the Lord...I told Him that if He couldn't take them away from me I was worshipping the wrong God....well I did well for a 6 hours then went out and had a smoke....Oh boy I knew that I was in trouble!!! within 24 hrs I was in the hospital with a heart attack!! It was a little one but it got my attention!!! Had to get 3 stinds in one artery but no damage to my heart...but it brought to my attention that God can take them from you...one way or another....

I have been smoke free for the 3 yrs.. and don't even think about them at all!!!

God Bless!!
