  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That sentiment is commonly attributed to Margret Thatcher.

What if we here on this forum could talk about issues rather than partisan talking points and ad hominem attacks on political personalities?
What if we could work through the problems we see on our own?

Of course most of the big problems are beyond our influence. But at least we can have clearer objective view of the issues and then sort out candidates who align with our thoughts. And there are certainly plenty of issues, gun control, Middle East, southern border, energy resources, environment, etc, etc.

Why can't we just talk about the issues? Why do we always have to throw in the political catch phrases and labels that really do not help at all?

Unfortunately, I do not have solutions. But I am willing to listen to opposing points of views and look at data objectively that supports them. Mere opinion and rhetoric is useless. I have learned a lot on this forum over the years. But learning requires an openness to things we have not heard or seriously considered. That is the beauty of discussion if it stays impersonal and objective.
