Since we have a thread about our cats I thought one about our dogs was in order :)

Who here has dogs or had one? What kind? Name? Pound or pure bred? etc......
Ill start:

I have two small dogs--one is a rescue and she is 10 yrs old --part taco dog and terrior. The other is going on 5 and he is a pure bred white Pomeranian.

I lost my last Pom at 8 yrs suddenly of a heart attack and waited 2 yrs to get another.
I love pound dogs as they simple have the most grateful and good personalitys.

I love Poms--they are creatures of habit--they pick up on your routine and stick to you like glue--in fact they get quit put out if you veer off the routine.

Both my dogs are talkers and the two together have become inseperable.

The Poms name is Kazz and the other is Lily.

Hey Jim--at one time we too had 8 dogs--all rescued. Only to find that one of them was pregnant!
We managed to find homes for most of them but seemed to always have at 3.

My German Shepard mix who lived till 16--died the yr before my Pom--was found on a road in el paso--the guy in fromt of us hit her--she was about 6 mo.

We stopped and two other cars stopped--in one of the cars was an older lady who was a Christian and came up and began to pray for the dog. All of us took her to the vet--we had no money to pay for what ended up to be a 300$ pelvic surgery.

The older lady paid for it--we had to get her off the street as the city was coming to get her and would have destroyed her.
We all named the dog Lady Donovan (Donovan was the name of the street).

None of the others could keep the dog so we took her.
But we all visited while Lady recovered which tool about 4 months before she could walk.
The great thing about it was we were all Chrisitans and it was a great witness.

Lady was the best--16 yrs for a shepard mix is a long time.

Letonstone--I love Leo! Toy poodles are one of my favorites.

I have Bearded Collies (Scottish sheep dogs) mine have been pedigree, but I've actually got a couple of them from refuges despite them being pedigree...have even had papers. At the moment we have Katie, she's 4 and Barkley, he's almost 10 and from times our "barks" lives up to his name. We've had him 4 yrs and he'd been starved...he was a mess. He likes my pet rats too, which is really funny to watch. The rats and Barks go...nose to nose....and Barks nose is almost as big as the rats....it's really funny. All my babies are very spoiled....they have a great kennel...it's called THE HOUSE !!

I had a dog......no, she was more than a dog. She was a springer spaniel. My baby, my best friend. Where I went, she went too. She grew old and developed cancer. Had surgery once, then the cancer came back. When the pain got too intense and medication didn't help...... I lost her December 23, 2005. I still miss her so much!

I am absolutely in love with big dogs--German shepherds, Newfoundlands, Great Danes, St. Bernards. I would own them all!

BUT my husband is not enthused. So...I'm very blessed to have a toy poodle and a cat, and I also had another cat...And my husband says he loves me a lot, otherwise he would never tolerate any of these. Lol!

But someday, maybe in heaven, I will have a lovely big dog...and a horse, and as many cats as I want...And of course there are animals in heaven. Jesus comes back on a white horse, right?

So until then, I "borrow" other people's animals. Today I got to fuss over my neighbor's black labrador retriever. And my own puppy, of course.

What can be lovelier than loving an animal? :)

I have so many more 'dog' MEMORIES in photo-albums
that I will DIG them out if interest prevails

Losing them MUST touch us all
I kept so-many (including RESCUES) over the years
I accepted, that by-comparison they, had such short lives
(eleven of them, had lives cut-short by cancer)
WE ALL had fun and joy together
I will be SO-HAPPY to meet them all again

We've had to have 3 dogs put to sleep. When one was done I was away and my husband took her to the vet and left her there to be done. I took the other two over and at first I didn't want to stay, but in the end I did...mind you, I howled my eyes out. But it had to be done and the vet and nurse were wonderful to me. It was SO QUICK....they just lay down and...went to sleep. After they'd GONE...I said to the vet....I couldn't believe it, she just looks like she's asleep. He then went and got a baby blanket and put it over her and let me stay with her as long as I wanted to, and I didn't have to pay for a few days till I felt better. That happened with both the girls I had to put down. A little blanket over them and I stayed maybe 20 minutes and stroked them and said my goodbyes. It was beautiful. I didn't bring them home after. I've had the same vet for 15 years, they are just wonderful. But gee...it's hard saying goodbye. Hopefully I won't have to do it again for a few more years yet. Our dogs now are 4 and 10......

I have an English Mastiff. She is 12 years old which is very old for a mastiff; their average life span is 7 to 10 years.
She doesn't weigh as much as she used to which was 200 pounds but she's still plenty big! People see her and think she's a pony!
Her name is Anika. Its an African name which means "very beautiful".

Last night I dog sat with my sister's and nephew's 2 dogs. They are named Bubba and Binky. I forget what kind they are, but they are adorable. I am Auntie Diana to them. My sister is Grandma to them. I will sit with an animal for a weekend. I love them, but I do not want any of my own. Binky, the female, likes to sleep with her nose in an arm pit. Bubba barks at any one who touches his family. So when my sister or her children are around him, I cannot hug or kiss them.
I love him anyway.
