..waste takes money away from taxpayers, saving 200 billion a year might allow the government to give each working and retired person a $500 stemi check..
you are aware the GOP/conservatives, ala Trump/Musk are in office?! They won't (can't) be giving money away, it'll encourage freeloading and people not working.
I'm sure this will help some people on the edge.
.. yeah there's probably a few struggling millionaires on the edge of buying/not purchasing a bigger yacht.

Of course, you guys remind me of Trump every day. "working and retired person a $500 stemi check.."
.. yeah there's probably a few struggling millionaires on the edge of buying/not purchasing a bigger yacht.
Don't be too jealous but $500 to the 1% would be like you handing me a dollar but it will be equally distributed and the poorer people can use it.

Trump has already promised $500 billion for private businesses reasearching so-called 'AI' (which would include his friend, the half-trillionaire Elon Musk). Ordinary people will not be seeing any of that $200 billion you mentioned, it won't be saved and it may even put many people out of the job if 'AI' can do their jobs instead.

AI is a real thing. I like investments in tech.

I hear you the government has been robbing us blind since forever. What made me think of this was some discussion on UBI.

“He’s more legitimate—or he has more statutory legitimacy—than earlier presidential advisors, like Harry Hopkins, who moved into the White House under the FDR administration, or Bernard Baruch, who basically ran two world wars, in terms of domestic production, under Woodrow Wilson and FDR. So, let’s just dispel the idea that he’s doing anything unusual. …

“As far as the executive orders that created the DOGE program and eliminated USAID—that was perfectly legal in itself—USAID was created by John F. Kennedy in 1961 by an executive order. There was a statutory direction for the president to disperse foreign aid into a comprehensive body, but it didn’t say USAID—he could do whatever he wanted. …

“And so, Donald Trump has decided to end an autonomous USAID and fold it into the State Department for disaster relief or poverty relief or famine relief. …“All Donald Trump is doing is saying, ‘I don’t believe the impoundment act is legal. We’ll see what the Supreme Court says—but I’m just following the precedent that Joe Biden did.’ But now, the shoe’s on the other foot.”

In a blast furnace, the heat is put in at the bottom, to percolate up through iron ore and minerals to create molten iron.
The economy works best when there’s a good chunk of the money at the very bottom, percolating up through the economy.
UBI and UHC is where we’ll end up after we’ve tried everything else.

Sadly, fiscal and monetary policy is what is keeping worker's wages low.

The executive order will leave just a few areas of the federal government unscathed, including positions affiliated with law enforcement, national security and immigration enforcement.

DOGE is focused on eliminating wasteful government spending and streamlining efficiency and operations, and it is expected to influence White House policy on budget matters. The group has been tasked with cutting $2 trillion from the federal government budget through efforts to slash spending, government programs and the federal workforce.

The White House said on Feb. 4 that it predicted a "spike" in resignations close to the original Feb. 6 deadline for the buyout offer, which would allow employees to retain all pay and benefits and be exempt from in-person work until Sept. 30.

"The number of deferred resignations is rapidly growing, and we’re expecting the largest spike 24 to 48 hours before the deadline," a White House official told Fox News Digital on Feb. 4.

And? The Executive Branch clearly has the power to prosecute a war. It does not have the power of the purse.

John F. Kennedy created the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through Executive Order 10973 on November 3, 1961. This action followed the passage of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, which mandated the establishment of a single agency to coordinate foreign assistance programs. USAID was initially set up as an agency under the State Department to focus on long-term economic and social developmen

And so, the author is simply wrong.

People say things like this but I wonder if the understand the implications. There was a study in the 80s of the effects of lizard venom on guinea pigs. Sounds silly and wasteful no? The research done lead directly to the creation of Ozempic and other weight loss / diabetes medication. Just because we laymen do not understand the research does not make it wasteful.

I bet that if he agreed with you that then you would consider him to be correct.
The only reason anyone cares about him is that he is the rare right wing reactionary with an 'academic pedigree', just not one in anything relevant to modern politics, government, or economics.

They can ask me about sexual habits while on cocaine, but yes I get what you are saying. BTW some are questioning the prolonged use of Ozempic on lean muscle. I don't care which party cuts spending; it happens to be this one, and I support it.

I support the initiative President Trump’s efforts to address the misuse of taxpayer money. I hope Trump administration can reduce the federal budget and bring clarity to how the US spends money.

But , Did you read when the article was written? It was last updated on November 14, 2024.

I'm all for cutting spending. I just want it to be rational and well thought out, not performed off the cuff by an unelected and unaccountable man with an ideological axe to grind. Most certainly do not want it done as a unconstitutional power grab by the executive branch.
