I am moving to an apartment in approx. 2 weeks. I cannot have pets over 25 lbs. I cannot find another place to live that is affordable. My dog is approx. 40lbs. She has a very sweet nature with my daughter and myself. But, on the rare occasions, that she has been exposed to strangers, she displays aggressive behavior, and frightens even me. I cannot find anyone to take her in. I doubt that she would ever be adopted due to her aggression. All of the shelters here have a waiting list. I am strongly considering having her put down. It hurts my heart to think of this, and I feel very guilty. I cannot afford a trainer, nor do I have much time. The only option I have to improve life for my daughter and myself is to move. Basically, I must choose between a better life for us, or staying here with the dog. Any advice would be appreciated.

You must do what is best for you and your family. If what you state is the case, then unfortunately you don't have much of a choice. However, I do suggest you seek to find an alternative within those 2 weeks, or perhaps see if you can get around the 25lbs. limit.

Well, we are instructed to be the overseers of all of God's creation and that includes dogs and cats and all domesticated animals. Let me say the following.
1) It was humans who domesticated dogs & cats.
2) Because of humans, there are too many dogs & cats.
3) Humans are irresponsible because they don't spay and neuter their animals so it spots the reproduction of unwanted pets.

With this said, I would say that is ethically wrong. Why? Because we are the reason there are so many and we need to stand up and be responsible. Doesn't that mean "putting them down?" NO! It means getting them spaded and neutered. It means that once we pick a pet for the family, then we should be responsible for the pet it's entire life.

hope it's not too late: Check your local by-laws. In my town, there was a bylaw signed that prohibited apartment building owners/managers from limiting pets as long as they weren't dangerous to other residents. I would suggest if that's the case in your area, you might be able to acclimate your dog to your new surroundings and correct the aggressive behaviour before it becomes a problem (that's a different topic, but there are plenty of training websites that can help)
