  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am not sure what you have in your neck of the woods but when my dog would chew on things she was not suppose to we used something called "Bitter Apple". Its in a small pump bottle and is not harmful to your pet and has to taste just aweful because after only one use she quit chewing and just the site of the bottle made her know she was about to do something she was not suppose to.

Maybe ask your vet about a similar product.

Almost every dog I've ever know has been a sneaky cat-dropping eater. They always look slightly embarassed when they do it but they can't seem to help themselves.

It's gross but I don't think it hurts your dog.

My dogs do that if they have the chance.
I dip the litter pan at night and use a pooper scooper in the yard.
It makes my stomach churn just thinking about it.

Hey, what are you complaining about? The dog is getting the poop out of the litterbox so you don't have to! :D :D :D

Seriously now, copraphagia (which means poop eating, you never thought something like that would get a fancy name, did you, but it did) is fairly common. Try to follow the cat to the box and after they've gone, put some hot sauce on the droppings.

Personally I've never met a dog that was phased by bitter apple. They seem to lick it/eat it/chew it and ask for more.

My Rott must be a wimp then cause she couldnt stand the stuff. Sprayed on the poop is a different story. (We've all been saying poop:D ) Yeah I'm 8.

I had a similar problem with my dogs, when I asked the vet they told me it was because the dog is missing something in their diet like vitamines or something and that it would not hurt them to eat the poop:holy:
With many dogs this behavior stops with proper nutrition. I would suggest a protein rather than grain based diet (all kibble= grain based diet) Most cat food is higher in protein than dog food. That is why dogs like cat droppings so much more.

Also the addition of pro-biotics. These are "good bacteria" like acidophilus. Dogs need this stuff and stools are full of it. I don't feel that it is harmful for them to eat the stools, but is very unpleasant to witness and I have seen the behavior stop completely in 3 different dogs after switching their dog.
If the dog is eating it's own that suggests a really serious problem that is perhaps nutritional but may also hint at an emotional problem. Is more common with dogs from puppy mills (which includes almost any pet store animals) becuase they are locked in cages and left in their own filth so they learn to tolerate their own feces also naturally they should have an aversion towards them.
