  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have studied the Bible a lot in recent months, and I have been on CF for awhile now. People seem to debate a lot over what is okay and what is not, but a thought always occurs to me when I read any command given by the Bible:
Doesn't it make sense? God says sex is for marriage between man and woman, which makes sense because only man and woman coming together can make babies.
God says don't get divorced, which makes sense because children need their parents, and if every person thought of marriage as permanant before going in, they would probably be more careful about who they married.
Don't the Scriptures just simply MAKE SENSE from a 'bigger picture' perspective? Or is it just me that thinks that?

People use the Bible for a lot of reason, but it's good to calm down a little...
  • One thing to keep in mind is that the point of Christianity is not actually that it would be a set of morals, although the Bible happens to be very relevant. This is my opinion. I'm not a Sola Scriptura -type-of guy.
... because too many just see the Bible as "a good book".

... The fallacies are for example:
  1. Thinking that it's easy to make divisions in the Bible and thereafter draw Scripture quotes from ANY part of the Bible they've happened to prioritize to justify this or that or randomly downgrade parts of the Bible in order to not having to face unconveniant Scripture passages.
  2. Thinking that the BIBLE is the book that has caused the most division. Even if the Bible would have been completely different to what it is, cunning preachers would have used "the Bible" for their own purposes causing mass-hysteria, spreading false teachings, and the like.
All-in-all the Bible contains bold statements, and we are still to take it seriously. So yes it makes sense!

The laws of Torah were intended to make the traditional family unit strong and cohesive. Everyone had their responsibilities, which, if carried out conscientiously, would lead to a cohesive family unit, which in turn would lead to a cohesive society. And this was due to the ancients' recognizing that any society was only as strong and cohesive as the individual family units which made up that society.

Jesus himself reinforced this. In Mark 7:20-23, he stated that two of the sins that made man 'unclean' were sexual immorality and lewdness, both of which endanger the family unit. In Matthew 19:18b-19, he listed adultery as one of the sins it was important to avoid, a sin that has destroyed far too many family units.

And there is another reason for avoiding sexual immorality: Sins such as these always become increasingly more jaded and horrific as time goes by. There is no such thing as "I'll try this lifestyle to see if I like it," any more than there is such a thing as jumping into quicksand and then extricating yourself if you find it to be deeper than you thought.

"don't boil a kid in its mothers milk". Apparently this is really, really, important because it's repeated several times. But why?

EXACTLY! I am not a Messainic Jew, just to be clear, but I feel I am beginning to see so clearly the reasons why the OT commanded what it did. My pastor preaches out of both the OT and the NT, and I see so much SENSE in what the Bible says!

But what about married couples who don't want children or can't have children? What about people who can't have children or who shouldn't have children because their children will inherit genetic diseases and handicaps? Not every woman on the face of the earth was meant to be a mother, not all women are supose to have children, I don't ever want to have kids becasue they will be messed up, they will inherit my mental illness, and I would not be a good mother anyway. Women with mental illness should not have children., for that matter neither should men. WHy can't people marry just to enjoy each other's company? When God said to multiply and fill the earth, th earth is already full, there's no more room. Birth control is a practical gift from God, so make use of it people, don't fill the planet to over flowing with human beings, leave room for the animals and plants. The sole purpose of marriage is to enjoy love.

Okay I'm sorry, I do agree with you. Not ALL people are called to have children. Please accept my apologies!

I was speaking in terms of people having kids, yes. But that aside, sex between man and wife is a beautiful thing! I was sort of trying to frame the reasons why it should be ONLY between man and wife.

Does that make sense? I really wasn't trying to offend.
