  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We have Saturday confession for an hour and by appointment. I will say thought that my Priest speaks of confession during Mass at least once a month and we offer two or three large community confession nights during the year.
Same here.

Certain times of the year, we do have pulpet announcements of communal reconciliation services around the vicariate. And along with the bulletin, during these times we are also reminded that individual reconciliation is on Saturday for those who can't attend the communals.

Just to make something clear: During the communal service, there is an opportunity for individual confessions as Priests around the vicariate attend each others services.

Aaaah yes......confession/reconciliation is always encouraged as it does cleanse the soul and ones mind every time we do it.

If you listen to the homily every week, there is always "some" kind of reference to reconciliation. It may not be very blatant, but it's there none the less.

My pastor promotes the Sacrament quite a bit, and when he first came to our parish a little over 2 years ago he added confession times before the Sunday morning masses. However I think the Sunday morning slots have been discontinued (not enough people taking advantage, I presume).

Father does offer extra opportunities for Confession during Lent. :)

The university parish downtown has confession six days a week, though normally on a weekday I would have to take off work early to avail myself of the opportunity.

I'vw heard one pointed mention of Reconciliation sofar, but we have Confession offered during and after each Weekday evening Mass, and on most Sundays, in-between Masses and sometimes during Mass (for the people that are going to the next Mass). It's not at all distracting, b/c it's off to the side of the Church and the only way you know Confession is going on is because of the light above the door. Many people go, and I feel so good when I see people kneeling and praying by the Confession area when I get to Mass early. It's a constant reminder to me and I'm so glad for it. :)

Unfortunately, just about the only thing I don't like about my parrish is this one. You practically need to trap one of the priests to be able to get confession. Once you DO trap them 2 of the 3 are very happy and pleased that you did. Number 3 made me feel very uncomfortable even for asking.
Anyhow, I'm going to try and trap one again this sunday, I hope, to set up an appointment and hopefully a schedule. I don't like stalking priests.

I want a new choice! Now with our present priest, we have confession for 1/2 hour and by appointment. The priest before this only had it first only once a month and by appointment and then twice a month and by appointment. There's also a communal penance service twice a year (and this priest is the only one we have had in a LOOONG time that has enough priests afterward for individual confessions.)

I'm jealous of any of you that have confession every day of the week--or even one of the weekdays--Saturday is really a hard day for me. (BTW, I'd even take a Sunday confession time!)

I'm glad it's gotten a little better than it was before.
I'm going to evening Mass tonight and I will pray for your situation.

I personally plan to call for a Confession appointment for Monday evenings when I move back to my old parish. Then I plan to tell my whole family and some fellow parishioners that the priest will be around at that time if they want to ask if they can be tacked on into the appointment.

Is that too sneaky?

It's by appointment only at my parish, unless they recently changed it (I didn't read last week's bulletin in a lot of detail). But there is a church downtown literally a block from my office that offers daily confession for at least 1hr each day. I've had to wait in line on a Tuesday morning.
