  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"mother" your children? That is if you have any.

My 2 younger children are sick, and my female dog is so mothering to them. She just hovers and is always sniffing them, and last night, after I was up with them for hours, I finally got to rest, and she got mad at me!! She kept pawing at me and then walking halfway to their room. I swear, she was mad at me for leaving them alone.

After some time, my 7 year old came and crawled in my bed, and my husband, who had stayed up with them the night before, went to sleep on the couch, just to get some rest..well my dog then climbs up by my daughter's head and arranges herself around her head, like a pillow. It was so strange to watch. We have had her (the dog) since she was 5 weeks old, and my daughter was just 4 when we got her, my other daughter was almost 3.

She also gets very upset when they cry. It visibly disturbs her, she starts to pace and lick them.

Your dog sounds like she is a very nurturing, loving and mothering soul.

Yes, dogs sometimes do act like that. I have noticed it more with my 7-month old dog, Abby - she does similar things. (Her mother was the same way). It is so instinctive. But, I really treasure that when I see it. (And like a big sap, I cry!) But, it's because it really touches my heart to know that my dog loves me and my family enough to show her care and concern...and to show us that she is sensitive to our feelings and hurts.

You have a very special dog there and that is wonderful blessing to have.

God bless you and thank you for sharing about your dog!

My male dog mothers our kittens, to the point where he didn't want their mother near them, he would take them from their house and lay them beside him and he would lick them. He also would climb inside their house and try to lay with them, it was funny to watch him get into their house since he is a German Shepherd.
One of the kittens died and we buried it, he dug it back up and brought it back into the garage with the other kittens, is was gross but cute that he did it.

My old dog, also a German shepherd, would come running and try to lick and nuzzle us with his nose us if we cried, or pretended to cry.

How sweet your dogs sound. It is sad that your younger dog seemed to mourn the kitten he lost.

My female will not fall for the fake crying. The male does, but I have to admit, as sweet as he is, he is a couple cans short of a six-pack. He will respond to any noise just to get some love, and of course we are all willing to give it to him.

She has still been protective, the girls are feeling better. It was very sweet to watch her be such a mommy. She is such a wonderful dog.

I am praying our female dog will be mothering to our baby when the baby is born! Our dog, Taffy, is 8 1/2 years old and we've had her since she was 2. We didn't know if we'd be able to have kids, so we've literally treated her like our child. I can't help it- I love her sooooooooooo much!!! I keep hearing from people I work with (I work at an animal hospital) that she will be very jealous when the baby is born .... I am praying that won't be the case!

3girls2dogs- maybe you could send your sweet, female dog our way for a few doggie mothering lessons for our little Taffy girl! :D ^_^ Do you think she'd show her the ropes?

Some dogs are so caring and some are just not. My shepard/doberman mix was so sweet when I felt ill. She would so gently get on the bed or couch with me and would not leave my side. My golden I have now really doesn't notice when I don't feel well or have a problem. She's no more attentive in any situation but on her behalf she wants to be with us every waking moment. I can't wait until the baby comes, I think she will be in heaven, she so attracted to kids.
