  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm just curious as to whether or not any of you ever actually hear that voice in your head that you're certain is God? Over the past two weeks I've had the words "Love and Patience" coming into my head with regards to a certain situation I've been praying about and just yesterday, I heard more than I ever have. It was basically,"Why are you afraid of success?" This is a pretty new thing to me, so I'm still not sure if I'm just totally crazy or if God is actually speaking to me. I'm inclined to think the latter simply because everthing I've heard thus far has helped me so much, what do you all think?

I think God speaks to every believer. Maybe not in an audible voice, but the holy spirit definitly helps us to know what God is telling us. If any of you have ever done the study "Experiencing God" , Henry Blackerby says in that study that God speaks to us in 4 ways: His word (the Bible), in prayer, through circumstances, and through other believers. I agree with this and it can either be a combination of any of these or just one; but I believe that God will always back up what he's telling us through the word of God. God's word is living and active and we have to be in it and be listening in order to hear God speak.

Woo, well said, Mina!

My best friend is currently on a Missions Trip (YWAM) and she emailed me one day and told me what God wanted to tell me thru her... she's been taking classes (or maybe it was just a class?) on how to hear God's voice... she called me a few days after and we talked about it. It was pretty interesting... especially one part at the end... yet, I'm still iffy on it all, ya know?

I hear voices too and sometimes I don't know if they're from God or if they're from Satan. Whatever you do...DO NOT do whatever these voices tell you to do if they tell you to do something. Once I did so...and a very bad thing happened.

I still get voices and some are comforting so I really don't know what to think. However, a bible expert on family radio said that these voices are from the devil and maybe the voices are telling you comforting things to condition you to do the devil's will.

You're better off reading the bible if you need comforting. The best bible for comforting is "The Promise Bible" it has a green cover and is at your local bookstore. You then are certain that those bible words are God's words and not just voices.

smash_kate,
If you're hearing voices (especially if you actually hear them, that they aren't just unwanted thoughts), it might be a sign your brain isn't wired right, so to speak. I don't mean that offensively, it's something neurological, which medication may help a lot. Schizophrenic people get this a lot. I'm not implying that you are one, though.
As for it being the devil, I dunno, I find it hard to believe so many people get to silence him with medication.
Anyway, I think it would be wise to get it checked.

I would agree with mina completely as well

I don't think that God speaks in an audiable voice. I also think depending upon your faithfulness and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ/GOD. I also think GOD communicates to use through other people at certain times and through circumstances at other times , but I don't think that every conversation. interaction with other people, or circumstance that happens in our lives should be seen as communication from GOD

I mean ,why should GOD answer someone when that person has already proven that they aren't going to listen or obey!?

But again , I don't think that GOD speaks to people audiably in today day and age. Why is that??? I don't know , I can think of many reasons , but ultimately only GOD knows why and why not he does certain things.

The funny thing is that I've had those voices too. But it's more like esp for me. I can have "conversations" sometimes with people. Have no idea where it comes from. It's what led me too salvation, because i couldn't understand it and it made me think about God and his role in my life. A friend once "talked" to me about God and my faith. I can also feel the energy change in a room sometimes. Believe it or don't. I know it wasn't my own imagination because this person used a word I didn't know and i looked it up in the dictionary later. She also blushed at the very moment I thought I like her new shirt, but the colour is wrong for her, among other examples. It all led me to God, among other examples with a couple of other God-fearing people. However the last experience I had made me lose my faith in this strange ability that I sometimes have. It was with a God-fearing person, a much better example of a Christian than I am. But I was not given one piece of information that would have saved me a lot of struggling and pain that I don't believe God intended me to ever have, if this power came from him. So I question it and don't trust it anymore. Yet it was the very thing that made me become Christian in the beginning. Very strange indeed.

I've heard God speak to me. It wasnt a big booming voice from the sky but just a whisper in my head. It was a little while after I had broken up with a long term girl-friend and was praying that God would give her back, Take away my feelings for her or just send me some one to love. And as soon as I said "send me someone to love" I heard him whisper "I already did." As Mina said his sheep know his voice and I know that it was definatly God who spoke to me that day.

God spoke to his people through many different ways in bible and I think that he communicates in the same ways today. Whether its through other people, music, the word of God or through a voice in your head God can do all things and does to speak to his children.

yeah I'm the same girl who posted something b4 in this thread and heard voices too. i had to break up with someone cause he wasn't really a believer and he didn't want to marry anyway, but just get in bed with me. sometimes when I was feeling lonely i'd pray to get married and i'd hear "Wait" or sometimes when I wanted a boyfriend I'd hear "you're young" something like that . and now that I think about it...I actually want to be alone but these voices keep contradicting that. so I dunno.

Hey. First let me encourage you...Many people believe God does not speak to anyone ANYMORE EXCEPT through the Bible. BUT I believe while he does speak through the Bible he uses hundreds of other ways to speak to us. These things COMBINED WITH THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT are what comfort me in knowing God is not "in a box" and IS willing to reach us how ever is necessary. Just remember God is not apart from us. He is not glued to his throne so far away. Despite what anyone tells you God wants more than anything to JUST LOVE AND WALK with YOU. In the end he will either say..."I did not know you" or "Come, I know your heart because I walked with you". If you are interested I recommend reading books by people like Brennan Manning, John Eldredge, Thomas Merton and titles like "You can hear the voice of God".

I heard God on several different occastions, not audible though. I once woke up from a dream that scared me(you could call it prophetic), and I prayed to ask if it was from Him and what it ment, and a few seconds later I heard on the inside "It is the things to come." I just know it was Him.
