The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

the rheumatologist that diagnosed me was an expert on fibromyalgia and mine was triggered by an car accident
am actually fortunate to be alive since I was hit on the hwy and my car totalled, so I try not to complain too much re fibro
Even in our sleep--our brains to not go to sleep like normal people's brains do--ours remain lit up even at our deepest sleep levels, which they say is why it doesn't matter how much sleep we get, we are always tired--because the brain doesn't rest normally.
That's what we and many others were told for decades.agree with ^
but have had fibro for long time; it's not going away
It is quite common for fibromyalgia to hit after a trauma--it is sort of like the straw that broke the camels' back. And it seems like there is only soo much stress over a long period of time that the brain tolerates without short-circuiting.
COOL! (not making fun or light of this) .... just I forgot completely about stress relief and how much that helped..... ask at a health food store what the customers do for stress - amazing and simple and inexpensivelot of changes, "good" stress, but stress nevertheless
agree ^
think my body was "primed" for it/so accident triggered it
lot of changes (stress) in one yr
finishing up college, met/started dating husband, engaged 2 mos later, then planned wedding/married 4 mos later, started working two jobs after honeymoon, by Christmas forced overtime on one (12 hr/day) came home and worked 4 hr second job, then couple mos later car accident
lot of changes, "good" stress, but stress nevertheless
She went vegan several years ago, and that I believe helped her pain levels all around, and kept her at a healthier and more active lifestyle. They did a lot of traveling to foreign countries where they would work for free clinics to help those who had no dental care. They went every year in spite of their health problems. They keep going, and I think their diet, has helped them to keep going in a more active way than most with these health problems
Shalom, and by all means if able get more medical opinions. At least if possibe see if perhaps there is a support group in town or online with people who were relieved of their diagnosis after some number of years, by good steady long term honest treatment with a doctor's care. (i.e. successful programs - they are out there available, but not advertised and almost never referred to ) There's almost never a reason to suffer more than ten or twelve years, and sometimes much less. (I think 7 years to 10 years is average) Sometimes more, unfortunately.hi all
I've had it for a long time, my doc says hes thinks by the time i was 17 i had it....

I am just racked with pain lately, Does stress make Fibro worse? I can't hardly move and I just plain hurt.
Thank you, No medicine helps, The Dr gave me Tramadol and it is like eating candy, It won't touch the pain at all. I very much dislike taking anything but I am desperate. For me, stress does play a significant factor in my fibromyalgia pain. I try to avoid stress as much as possible. You have my sympathy and my prayers.

I tried Gabapenton and my BP went to 80 over 30 and I am 6ft 2in and a really big guy. The Dr accidentally overdosed me. He told me to take three times what was allowed on my first week and that was enough for me. [almost killed me] I refuse to try anything else from him.I agree that Tramadol, as well as ibuprofen and aspirin and tylenol don't touch my fibro pain at all. Have you tried gabapentin (aka neurontin)? That works very well for me. I also take duloxetine (aka Cymbalta) which I think also helps.
