  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone know how to make a cake without eggs, peanuts or wheat? Thanks!

I've never made one but I did find a few recipes when I googled it.

Try these:
http://jeenaskitchen.blogspot.com/2008/12/gluten-and-egg-free-sponge-cake-recipe.html
http://mudspice.wordpress.com/2007/08/11/cupcake-recipe-gluten-free-egg-free-dairy-free-sugar-free/
http://www.cakeandcommerce.com/cake...e-eggfree-baking-grandmas-chocolate-cake.html

Each of these recipes uses some ingredients that you won't find in your local grocery store but you should be able to find it in a health food store.

There are box mixes available that are gluten and wheat free. Many are also free of the top 8 allergens. Check out Amazon Grocery and search gluten free. It will give you an overview of the mixes available. Many are also available at your local whole foods store or even a larger quality grocery store.

Check out some vegan cooking sites and you can find an egg replacer to use when baking. There are a few options to choose from. I haven't baked egg free in quite a while so I'm not sure which ones would be the best. This site will give you some ideas. Vegcooking and look for egg replace. I can't post links yet.

You can bake a good cake without a box mix but if it is your first time and a one time thing it is just easier to get the boxed mix than to buy all the alternative flours and ingredients needed to make a tasty gluten or wheat free cake from scratch.

I can't remember if I commented on this in the other thread or not... some of the egg replacers do have egg in them. I have a friend on another forum whose daughter is highly allergic to egg, and the closest they can use is another fruit/veggie or ground flaxmeal with water to substitute for egg.

Banana sometimes subs well for egg, and applesauce sometimes does. The worry becomes the denser cake though... so it might take a little longer to cook your cake if you use one of these substitutions.

Flax is great. If you do a search online, they'll tell you how much flax to water it takes for however many eggs.

Holler if you need any help. I'm so used to cooking gluten free, and I've had to do a few mixed recipes before. What I don't know, I can ask my mom, since she is a professional GF Baker/cook
