• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does anyone here have the same issue as me?

That their OCD gets worse at night?

I went all day today and yesterday both without any intrusive thoughts or thinking about it. But, last night when I was out with a friend. I had to cut our date short and make him drive me home earlier because my OCD started up. It started up again about 9PM tonight as well.

Anyone else have the same thing happen?

Yes I notice this also. What is strange is that on one of my first long bouts of OCD it always got worse at night, but with my last bout it was horrible in the a.m. and I felt really good late at night. Don't know why this is but I definitely noticed a pattern both times.

This has been the case with me as well. I think it has to do with how tired your mind is, and how isolated you are from others.

At night, your brain is usually worn out, and needs resting. This has a negative effect on your OCD.

The other thing that can effect you, (or at least it does to me sometimes) is if you are alone at night when it is dark. Isolation in general can make your OCD spike, but something about being alone when its dark out can make it worse.

The time of day OCD sparks can probably be attributed to just another OCD compulsion, your mind takes on the habit (compulsion) to start up at a certain time in the day, this in turn creates anxiety during this time period, and that is when you start obsessing. Eventually your OCD will probably latch onto another part of the day and then go with that new cycle. I have noticed certain patterns in OCD, I do not think there is rhyme or reason to them though, just random anxiety mixed with an obsessive mindset.

Mine is worse at night for sure, and also in the mornings, especially after I hit my snooze alarm and am half asleep. For me it is when I am trying to relax and go to sleep that my thoughts come and I am stuck either staying awake and suppressing them or trying to relax and ignore them. TV helps me distract myself, but be warned, it takes longer to fall asleep with a TV on for a lot of people because of the light patterns.
