  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey all,

Does anyone else have a hard time identifying with some of the psalms. Pslam 17 for instance...

1Hear a just cause, O LORD; attend to my cry!
Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit!
2From your presence let my vindication come!
Let your eyes behold the right!
3You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night,
you have tested me, and you will find nothing;

Or Psalm 26...
1 Vindicate me, O LORD,
for I have walked in my integrity,
and I have trusted in the LORD without wavering.

There are lots of other examples. Sometimes I'm not sure if the athor really thought they were that good, or what.

Welcome to CF 25R. Peace to you.

Heres a few verses, but what do you mean? In respects to guile, or integrity? Such as holding to a good conscience? Not quite sure what you might mean in what the author might have saw good or not there.

1) craft, deceit, guile

1Peter 3:10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: (which come from Psalm 34:14)

1Peter 2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

John 1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

Rev 14:5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

1Peter 2:1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

Im guessing at what you are looking at, sorry if I am not helping any

God bless you

Heres a few more

Zep 3:3 The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

Psalm 52:4 Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

Psalm 120:2 Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

Ever do a tongue study? Wow... that one is a good one too. The heart itself is deceitful, and out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

It sounds very much like Job's description of himself to his friends that they tried to dispute. In the end God made Job sacrifice for their words spoken out of place but also reprimanded Job for his lack of knowledge as well. God clearly thought highly of Job as evidenced from the first few verses of the book. Yet only God really sees us as we truly are while attributing His greatness to us. No one is perfect. But the bible is a book that describes the treasure that is carried in an earthen vessel. The vessel is not yet perfected but the treasure shines forth regardless.

Psalms are meant to be contemplative. They are not just songs, nor are they just prayers, they have a deeper Spiritual understanding that only GOD can unfold to the believer. We can study their historical settings, as well as understand definitions of words, but being so multifaceted, their true understanding must be reveal by The Holy Spirit to our spirit.

Also, being so multifaceted, their Spiritual understanding at one point can change for another situation altogether. They truly are fountains of deep understanding and wisdom.

The King James gives you a better translation for the psalms with a better understanding.

Hear the Right O Lord and attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer that goeth not out of feigned lips. Let my sentence come forth from your presence.

Whet he is saying there, and he is not crying. He is saying. teach me Lord with your understanding that when I speak it will come fro m your presence or thoughts, your understanding. Let thine eyes behold the things that are equal. Again let me speak with your words Lord.

Vindicate me, Show me the right, He's saying he already overcoming things at night, thats in darkness and he is purpossing that he speak without transgression, darkness is transgression to light.

He even says the words of men are the paths of the destroyer if you get it and the words of God's lips keeps you from them.

I see some people thinking David was a depressent or something but it isn't like that. You have to understand what he is saying in his prayers.

When it says David cryed to the Lord, that means give me your attention like John crying in the wilderness, he wasn't crying. When David says incline thine ear to me, he isn't asking God to listen there, he is saying give me your ears so I can hear what is being said, having ears to hear. All the psalms, if you understand them, they are amazing. Even when he say Let thine eyes, he says give me eyes to see every thing right.

Look at psalm 61 and you get a better picture too.

Psalm 17:1-3

King James Version (KJV)

1Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.
2Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.
3Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress
Like CRF, I believe the KJV is best for accuracy. When our prayers come "not out of feigned lips", we pray in truth and in spirit to God; we look to Him for answers. God "tries" us to discern our hearts and if our hearts are pure toward Him, forsaking all others, He will find "nothing" against us. Our allegiance must be toward the Lord and His Way--not man and the ways of men. If we speak the Word He gives us, we will not "transgress." The Word of the Lord is pure and refined; it will not return to Him void, but will accomplish that which He pleases.

1 Vindicate me, O LORD,
for I have walked in my integrity,
and I have trusted in the LORD without wavering.
Psalm 26:1

King James Version (KJV)

1Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide.
If we walk in integrity, we are guided by "the upright."

Proverbs 11:3

King James Version (KJV)

3The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
The "transgressors" are perverse, directed away from what is right and good.

And who exactly are the "upright"?

Psalm 111:1

King James Version (KJV)

1Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.
Those in the "assembly of the upright" are those who "praise the LORD" with their "whole heart."

If we search, Scripture defines Scripture, and we can glean much wisdom from the Psalms. David wasn't an ego-maniac; David was a man after God's own heart; David loved and praised the Lord with all his heart, soul, mind, and strength. David knew that his only boast was in the LORD:

Psalm 44:8

King James Version (KJV)

8In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

3You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night,
you have tested me, and you will find nothing;
Our lips are free of deceit when we are not asking amiss [see James 4:3]. So the psalmist is essentially saying to God, hear me Lord when I am asking exactly as I should ask. What the psalmist is not saying directly but, which is implied, is 'do not hear me whenever my request is out of order' [not within God's will for the situation].

Verse 3 of Psalm 17 is dependent on the previous two verses. God will find no fault in me when my lips are free of deceit. See here the very last words of that verse:

"...thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress."

The psalmist's purpose is to keep his lips be free of deceit when he pleads his case to God. If his lips are so, then God will find no fault in him in that regard. If his lips are not so, then, of course, fault will be found in him.

Or Psalm 26...
1 Vindicate me, O LORD,
for I have walked in my integrity,
and I have trusted in the LORD without wavering.
David means and intends that his own integrity is without flaw, but as we know, he did slip up along his own pathway. Yet, in spite of his mistakes, the ultimate focus of his heart was toward God. (This is why he was able to please God anyway.) It is not our own integrity we need to have, but God's integrity!

God wants us to know that men, even the best of men [David being pointed out as one of the better ones], are fallible even in their prayers. In other words, we cannot even pray to God corrrectly without help. Fortunately, God is merciful and understands our hearts and our purposes better than we do.

God inspired men to write scripture, but He did not remove all of the failings of those men in what they wrote. This is why some men will be quick to say that the Bible contains contradictions and wrongful statements. As men see it, that may be so, but as God sees, the written scripture contains all of the Truth that God wanted it to have in it.

Too many people read scripture expecting certain things and get what they expect to get. We need to ask God to help us to read scripture and get what He expects us to get.

Remember, the natural children of Jacob [Israel] wanted to have a natural king, even though Samuel was against it because what they wanted was to be like the unbelievers. God granted them their desire and they paid heavily for it. All we have to do is read about the very many kings who did not walk with God as opposed to the very few who did.
There are lots of other examples. Sometimes I'm not sure if the athor really thought they were that good, or what.

Ultimately, the author is God and He made no mistakes. Every time God allowed a man to write something, which appears to the natural man to be wrong, God had a purpose for even for the apparent error [as the flesh and mind of a carnal man sees it]. When we need to know God's purpose for such things, if we seek it as we should, He will provide what is needed.
