  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey!

Since it's beginning to look like we're going to have a statistical breakdown of the beliefs of regulars in one form or another, this is a thread for input. What doctrines would you like to see on the survey? Please phrase the doctrines in the affirmative and only doctrines with which you will respond "I agree/Yes" when the survey comes out (e.g. - "The One God exists in Three Persons" instead of "There is One God and Jesus is a dim ray of light from Him" if you are a Trinitarian).

Next Saturday or Sunday I'll come back and turn them all into one massive survey.

How about a simple confession straight from Scripture?

"God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. Therefore, Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"

This comes to mind because my church uses these two Scripture passages as their confession of faith - and it pretty much sums up the definition of a Christian regardless of denomination.

Read the OP, again. This is not about a forum creed. This is for setting up a survey for which people can sort of "tick off" doctrines with which they agree. Optimally, each one would be no more than a few words. But they can be phrases from Scripture or a creed or a Church father or wherever else.

A good suggestion was made that each be associated with a link to a page (possibly Wikipedia) with some discussion on the particular doctrine.

Re: ChaosChristian - What?! Have we not spent the last two years together in Origins Theology?! Was the thought that I might forget the "Other" option more quick to your mind than the thought that I might make it the first option? ;)

Whoops! I meant to include a few:

---

Jesus is fully God and fully Man

One God exists in Three Persons

The Bible is infallible in matters of faith and practice

The age of the universe is best measured in billions of years

Various forms of nonviolence are the best approaches to most of the world's problems

God hears and meaningfully responds to prayer
