I don't watch a lot of television, but it has turned into one of my favorite shows now.
I'm surprised no one has commented on the end of the current Dr. Who season. I had mixed feelings. I liked the way this new Doctor looked and his personality was as quirky as most of the previous doctors (though I miss the strange clothing they loved in the past). I was not too happy to see the change to this new actor (the guy who played Barty Crouch junior in Harry Potter - The Goblet of Fire.) I am sure I'll enjoy the series no matter what they do but Eccleston had finally grown on me as the Doctor and then he's gone.

I also had mixed feelings about that kiss at the end. For 30 years the Doctor has been "asexual" as far as the plots went. There was never any indication of romance or a little nookie-nookie with the companions for that entire 30 year span. And yeah, I know this kiss was thrown in to make it seem like it had to be done for the transfer of TARDIS energy but if you observe, you see it's through the eyes. The kiss was there to get them close enough I suppose but it didn't seem necessary to me. Did I think it looked romantic? You betcha. Did I enjoy seeing it. Yes and no. A tradition broken, I guess. Also, what was with that kiss that Captain Jack gave the Doctor. Not one of those on-the-cheek deals either, but right on the lips. Sheesh.

Bump.

Doctor Who has the highest ratings in it's slot over here in Britain. We're approaching the end of "Series 2" with the new doctor, David Tenent and he doesn't disapoint.

Concerning the sexuality in Doctor Who, the kissing isn't romantic in any way. It's strongly hinted at that there's romantic interests between him and Rose Tyler but the episode "School Reunion" (a reuniting with Sarah Jane Smith and K9) quashes any chance of a relationship. Don't worry.

Concerning Captain Jack: he's crazy sexual, but the kiss was just one of goodbye.

I was disappointed that Eccleston didn't last a few seasons because I thought he made a fabulous Doctor. I missed the last couple of episodes but this post Y2K version of Dr. Who is fantastic and I can't wait until they start rerunning them. I'm also looking forward to seeing Season 2 when it starts here.

I've been a fan since 1973 when John Pertwee was the Doctor.

Loved it when it returned with Eccleston, but love Tennant's Doctor even more.

In many ways Tennant's Doctor is more traditional in dress and style. This second series (which finished here in the UK last Saturday - 8th July), has been a big hit and has averaged 8.3 million viewers (making it number one in it's time slot with few exceptions), and with an average audience share of 40% (plus an Audience Index, or Appreciation, of 80% or more).

There will be another Christmas Special called The Runaway Bride, and series 3 will see a new companion join the TARDIS, called Martha Freeman. She will also be the Doctor's first black companion.

Great show and getting better and better! :)

What about Mickey? He's been listed as part of the TARDIS crew.

As far as I am aware Mickey has now left, but the door has been left open for him to return at some point.

He was never officially a companion. He travelled in the TARDIS for a couple of episodes, but otherwise was only around when Rose and the Doctor visited 21st Century earth.

Mickey returned in the 2005 Christmas special, The Christmas Invasion, and also briefly appeared at the opening of New Earth. Since The Christmas Invasion he took a more proactive stance in investigating extraterrestrial threats to Earth, alerting Rose and the Doctor to strange events at a local secondary school in School Reunion. At the end of that episode, he joined the TARDIS crew as a regular companion, although he has several times worried that he is a third wheel and taken for granted, comparing himself to "the tin dog" (K-9) ("I'm the tin dog!").

I became a fan in the early 80s. But didn't get really interested until I saw the first Colin Baker episdoe.

I've done some clarification on this, so hope this helps! :)

Officially a companion (or assistant), has to travel with the Doctor in the TARDIS for a number of episodes, and not just pop in or out every so often. They also have to be listed in the credits as a main character.

However, regarding Mickey, some believe that he is a companion, albeit an infrequent one, and others don't.

My own view is that he was not a companion, but others disagree.

What we can agree on though, is that Martha will be the Doctor's first black FEMALE companion.

Hope this helps? :)

Yes it is true! In an episode called School Reunion, in which we also meet Sarah Jane Smith again too.

It ties some loose ends up with Sarah and the Doctor from way back in 1976 when she left the TARDIS. It is a very good and quite touching episode.

K9 is the original from 1977, and voiced by the original man who voiced him in the 70s, John Leeson.

It's episode three of series two and well worth a watch.
