  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

OK, this one really frosts me. I keep a stockpile of websites that I find interesting, both sides of the fence, and I happened to glance at
"biblebelievers.net/Calvinism/kjcalvn6.htm" for no apparent reason this morning.

Take a look a few paragraphs down where Dr. Lightner discusses Q. 37 of the Heidelberg Catechism as a PROOF TEXT for his position.

The guy holds a doctorate, and we're supposed to take him seriously. His writing even shows a copyright mark. He's supposed to know how to research and present a case objectively and accurately in order to prove his point. He knew that the Heidelberg Catechism is a Calvinist document with a Calvinist perspective. And yet he writes as if the writers were CONCEDING Arminian beliefs!

I am astounded that someone with doctorate credentials would do this. If he's going to brag about being a doctorate at the top of his writing, he should be producing writings at that level, not a Jehovah's Witness level, stating things that were never the intent of the writers.

He is correct in that the Reformed community was not united in terms of the Atonement. To what extent he is correct that the Heidelberg Catechism reflects a belief in unLimited I don't know for certain. It is not my Catechism. Now, if you wanted to ask me about the WCF, that is another story.
