  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In the book of Mark, Jesus is telling his desciples what will have to happen before he returns. And it says nations will battle nations, and kingdoms will battle kingdoms. To me it seems some of it is starting to come true, and with how sinful the world is becoming it wouldnt surprise me to see it happen in my life.
But what are your thoughts?

Um, it came true 60 years ago as well. The world hasn't ended yet.
And quite frankly, I don't think the world has become "more sinful" (how do you measure the sinfullness of the world anyway?) as I really doubt the support of things like gay marriage even compares to the acceptance of slavery and genocide (just to name a few problems in the past).

You will know the end is near when the sky turns blue and people disagree on stuff.

I am predicting nothing, I have no idea when it is. It was merely a question. Actually when Jesus spoke of the end he said that HE nor the angels in heaven will know the day, only GOD the Father will know the exact day. The world in my eyes has gotten worse in that sin that wasnt exceptable 50 years ago is now not even thought of as rude or crude. That is how.

I don't know.

Even Jesus, in His humanity, didn't know.

Whenever God decides it should be is fine with me.

Not to repeat myself, but you seem to be forgetting what was acceptable in the past such as racism, slavery and genocide. Are you seriously saying that crudness is worse than slavery, racism or genocide?

Of course there is, But, it is much less than it used to be and much less accepted as well.

I just find it amazing that.

Accepting gays,
trying to get "under god" removed,
nudity,
sexual advertising,
etc.
= The world is so much more sinful than it used to be, and everyone accepts sin.

Racism is common
and accepted against many such as Jews, blacks, Irish,
segregation,
Slavery,
attempt at genocide of the jewish was supported by many,
Attempt at genocide of the native american people was supported by many,
Etc.
= Not as bad as the world today.

It seems like some peoples priorities are a bit screwy.

I know there have been many discussions on this in the past. The more interesting "end times" passage is Matthew 24. Jesus is telling his disciples about all the signs and wonders of his second coming. The way I read verse 34, it clearly indicates that all this will occur in their lifetimes. My bible translates it as "...this present generation will live to see it all." (REB) I've heard lots of explanations for why this didn't happen 2000 years ago, i.e., Jesus was really talking about the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem; or he really means the human race as a whole, etc. These disclaimers all seem extremely strained to me. If he does mean his coming will occur in his disciples' lifetime, then he obviously was lying. How do others interpret this passage?

That could be said about any time period in history! What makes you think now is any different?

I used to remember when people would talk about the nuclear arsenal as a sign of the end times ("Do you realize there are enough warheads to kill everyone on earth 3 times!!") and wondered if Christians in the 3rd or 4th century had these sort of discussions ("Do you realize there are enough arrows now to kill everyone in the world three or four times").

I think the plan is, live a life where you don't fear meeting God face to face (Which let's face it could happen any day I drive....and could happen to those who are unfortunately enough to be in the car with me when I drive - I'm not a bad driver, I just wish that people wouldn't get so particular about staying in the lines - it's like being back in kindergarden). Because really, the "end time" for us could be any day. I do want Christ to come back - and some days I think, "What exactly is he waiting for, isn't there enough unhappy, desperate, lonely, hopeless and confused people yet?"

And to repeat myself, the wrongs in the past may still be here, but not in the volume in the past.

I think anyone who thinks the past was better than today doesn't know much about the past.

No every bad thing there was in the past with slavery and everything else is still here but it has been added onto with so much more sin. I pray GOD does something quick to end the way the world is headed.
