  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't pump but I had to pump alot with my daughter. She didn't like to be held while eating. Anyhow, I used a Medela Pump In Style and it was so much easier than my Avent Isis pump that I had to use occasionally with my son.

By the way, do you use fenugreek? That really upped my breastmilk production when I took it consistantly.

I Wholeheartly believe that it is also the type of breast pump u use, the 1st 2 children i just bought any old breast pump, and i struggled, was not worth it,
after the others came along i went out and bout the medela, and i will tell you it was well worth the money, if you do not already have one. you can also rent hospital grades from the pharmacies.....they work like a charm.......good luck to you....it is not as easy as people think at times...

I did some major pumping. I had problems establishing breastfeeding with both of mine so I had to do some pumping until the worst problems were over. Also I work full time and I pumped for the first year.

The three pumps I hear most recommended are the Medela Pump In Style and Ameda Purely Yours (which I had and recommend) for the electric double pumps; and the Avent Isis manual pump. Other pumps I have not heard such good things about. Eventually I got really good at manual expression and stopped using the pump altogether but most people don't do that. What you do need is a good letdown, and some people find this difficult to get through a pump (although they usually have plenty of supply for actual nursing). There are some who swear by oatmeal (as well as fenugreek) to increase supply, although I didn't notice much difference.

If your milk turnover is only a couple of days, you benefit from not freezing the milk--the milk loses some of its immunological benefits and the taste may change if you freeze it (although it still retains a lot of nutritional benefits), and it can keep for the better part of a week in the fridge.

I exclusivley pump. We have to know exactly what he gets and not just a guestimate from the number of wet diapers. I have the Medela Pump in Style and the First Years battery operated pump. I like the Medela better but the FY is ok for when I'm out and about or over at my in laws or something. I have had a very little bit of production problem since Levi has the appetite of a pig, cow, horse, and many other large mammals combined. I think I'll try eating more otameal.

Do you only bottle feed?

I really enjoy breast feeding and my kids come with me to work so I don't have to worry about storing up too to much milk. Eli is just starting on pablum and I like to mix it up with breast milk. My husband tried to give him a bottle but it didn't go over very well.
