So I'd like to know if there's anyone out here who actually makes music, if yes I would appreciate if you'd say the genre, how it begun and if you want, a song.
As for me I make electronic psychedelic metal.
It all started out when my girlfriend left me....
I found it as a better way to express my feelings than crying.

awesome, i use fl studio nine or ten do you know and good creepie effects vst ans maybe some good ambients?

The standard VSTs are great already, but unless you are unwilling to pay, there aren't that many free VSTs that are any good. Massive, which is a high quality VST at a lowish price, is a great way to produce high quality synths. Z3ta+ 2 is also a good, relatively cheap VST.

Overall, Sytrus, Biohazard, and Harmless are good synthesizers as it is.

For good effects, again, there are few free ones out there. Sugar Bytes (good for high end noise filtering) is about 50 dollars. Ohmicide, another good one, I think is about 50-150 dollars.

If you want some good presets for Sytrus, just so you can see its production power, here are a few links.

Electrodia Sytrus Presets

Rinfield Sytrus Presets

Also, just because they are made for one genre does not mean you can't apply it to your own. With editing or not, it can be put into anything. And, if I may ask, how experienced are you in music and sound production?

well i begun working with fl studio six months ago so i guess i know the basics, i already use sitrus and massive and i'm pleased with them, and as i said, i make electronic metal latelly so i don't avoid synths, also i'd like some good voice synth you know, like a choir but solo and i wonder if you know anything about mastering since....wellll...i guess......i'd appreciate if you'd criticize the quality of the sound...you know the mastering and so.. of my songs

Ah, I know where you are then. When it comes to using VSTs, you have to learn about the different sound shapes and how to properly program your synth. I am sure you already know what frequency envelopes, resonance filters, LFO filters, cut off filters, and such do. If not, testing them out is easy.

For mastering, equalizing and compressing are the two key factors you need to focus on. It really depends on how many high, middle, or low register keys you have in your song. Each different instrument should have their separate mixer channel where you can EQ, compress, and sidechain. If this becomes to much of a drain on your CPU, you can always convert some of your synth sounds to a soundfont, reducing the amount of RAM required to produce your sounds.

For making vocal-esque synthesizers, here is a list of VSTs. Unless you are willing to spend about a thousand dollars on the VST, ReFx Nexus2, these are some of your best choices.

Additionally, here are some articles on mastering.
What is mastering? How to.
Mastering basics? How to.
Why master? How to.

I work in all genres, mainly Rock, Industrial, EDM, Cinematic and Pop.

Work mainly in Sonar X1, though I spend a good deal of time in ProTools studios and occasionally some running Cubase or Logic. Got hundreds of plugins including East West collections, Omnisphere, Komplete, Reason (which is a DAW, but I use it as a VST), Z3ta+ 2, Waves/Neve/SSL processing, etc. I've eliminated most of my outboard gear now to run most of my processing through software. If I need anything specific I can usually make a call.

My core experience is with Rock, Industrial, and Pop, but I've recently started an EDM project of my own which is mostly progressive trance based. I'm also working on a new cinematic project for a BBC show which has been a lot of fun.

I've worked with many top artists over the years apart from my own work in many different areas of music. It's amusing how the standards of recording have changed over the years and even more amusing how much the way things are done in the studio, especially with artists, have changed as well. Technology can certainly do some miracles.

East West makes some pretty high end VSTs using the Play engine, which is simply amazing. Their current big program is the Hollywood Strings/Woodwinds/Brass set that I can't speak highly enough about. I've been using their stuff for cinematic music for years and it just keeps getting better. Omnisphere is becoming more and more a standard tool for all styles. So many things you can do with it and many very original sound design ideas with the samples. It blew my mind the first time I tried it.

I've actually been using NI less and less as of late. Not sure why. Probably because everyone else uses it all the time.

I'd really like to get a DX7 to replace using FM8. There is something about using such a legendary board in the raw that makes you smile. Other than that one, I have no interest in hardware synths anymore.

Yes, I make my own music - I mostly program music with LMMS (Linux MultiMedia Studio) now; though I have previously played keyboard, which I had initially just messed around with, but I later started learning how to actually play on a keyboard, including music theory (I think I would still consider myself a beginner now).

I currently can't post links on Christian Forums, but if you would like to see an example of music that I have been working on, if you go to Youtube and type (without quotation marks) "Fear v.8-02 AJesusFreak686183" in the search box I think it should be the first video you see - the video is titled "Fear v.8-02" which was uploaded by AJesusFreak686183 (me).

I mostly make electronic music.

Hey thats cool your making electronic music too . Sorry for the slow reply , I have been busy working on my newest electronic music project .
I'll have to post one of my youtube links , I just created a nice flightsim music video for a good Christian friend of mine who has his own flightsim web site .
Thanks for sharing I'll checkout your youtube video . I use a few different DAWs Project 5 by CakeWalk and Reason 5 by propellerhead and a bunch of other music software rewired into Project five .

I'll get back to you , sorry again for the slow reply . When ever I start a new music project I'm addicted spending hours and weeks before I post the music on my soundclick website and also SoundCloud web site .

Thanks Buddy and God Bless - James

Heres my youtube music video -

Hi Creek , thanks for watching and your comments on my flightsim music video . Spent a good three weeks on that music and video project .
It took about 48 recorded tracks to finished the music, lots of layering and mixing to get it right .
Right now I'm creating a new song for my next upcoming flightsim video , lots of cool sounds in this new song I'm working on now .
Hope to have the music finished my the end of this week-end coming up , hey I forgot I did checkout you music video .
Your doing a good job at creating your music , I liked it .

Keep making that music and God bless - James

Thank you - wow, 48 recorded tracks, in my opinion is A LOT of tracks - I imagine that must have taken a lot of time to make between the song and the video.

God bless

Yea thats alot of tracks to work with , most of my music I work with has twenty -five or so tracks in them .
I did have one song called " Industrial Love " it had 64 recorded tracks , that song had sounds of working in a industrial factory . I had fun with that one but man was it hard to mix , it sounded pretty cool when I did finally finished mixing it .

Hey its dinner time , better get started and then back to my work-in-progress song .

Take Care my friend - James
