Deuteronomy 5:16, the 5th of the 10 commandments, says-
''Honor (respect, obey, care for) your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that your days [on the earth] may be prolonged and so that it may go well with you in the land which the Lord your God gives you.'' [AMP]
I have noticed a big connection in the way I act towards my blood family and the quality of life. Has anyone else noticed this? I don't mean my relationship with my family, because the relationship often depends on them, but I'm talking about strictly MY way of treating them. Scriptures like ''let the dead bury their own dead'', when Jesus advised one of His disciples to not go to his fathers funeral, has confused me into not having relationship with my family for a long time... but I feel like our blood family is a very important aspect to our faith. Both my parents are athiests pretty much and so it gets confusing. And it also says in the NT that family will turn on you for following Jesus... but I feel like God is showing and teach me to start honoring and loving all my family deeply. Anyone else experienced this with their blood family?
Do you honor your parents? Are they believers like you? What do you do to honor them?
