Due to false doctrine people have believed that their loved ones are in heaven and that the law is done away with or "nailed to the cross". Lets see if you go to heaven after you die according to the Bible (King James Version).

John 3: 13-14, 16 (King James Version)
--------------------------
13 And no man hath ascended up to
heaven, but he that came down from heaven,
even the son of man which is in heaven.

14 And as Moses lifted up the
serpent in the wilderness, even so
must the son of man be lifted up:

16 For God so loved the world, that
he gave his only begotten son, that
whosoever believeth in him should
not perish, but have everlasting life.

No one from earth has ascended to heaven except the son of man (Jesus), which happened after he died on the cross and was lifted up. Now lets see what happens after death. Lets take a look at Ecclesiastes 9: 5-6.

Ecclesiastes 9: 5-6 (King James Version)

5 For the living know that they shall
die: but the dead know not anything,
neither have they any more a reward;
for the memory of them is forgotten.

6 Also their love, and their hatred,
and their envy, is now perished;
neither have they anymore a portion
for ever in anything that is done under the sun.

I know its a comforting thought to think a person goes to heaven when they die but according to the word of god that is not the truth. Everyone has freewill and entitlement to their own opinion so what do you think?

i think that Jesus who opened the gates of Heaven and took a fast army of Jews, 144,000 with Him along into Heaven awaits each believer as they pass over from here to there.

The Word teaches.

The robber on the cross was told by Jesus Himself he would be with Christ in paradise that very day. We all know he died that very day.

We also know that Moses and Elijah come down from heaven at Christ's transfiguration. Another example of people being in heaven are the souls underneath the altar crying out to God to revenge their blood.

So i think that the teaching of believers going to heaven after they die is true especially because Jesus told us that if we believed in Him we would never die but have life everlasting.

Ample evidence that heaven is the place we go to when we die.

1 Thessalonians 4:14 "For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

My Bible is the same as everyone else's. It tells me that I'm seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus already (Ephesians 2:6). So no, I don't go to heaven when I die. I'm already there. Unless God is not in heaven........

Hello @ByFaith12, here are some of the Biblical passages that the historic Christian church (in its entirety) uses as evidence against the doctrine of the sleep of the soul.

Matthew 17
1 Six days later Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves.
2 And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light.
3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
4 Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, I will make three tabernacles here, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”
6 When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground and were terrified.
7 And Jesus came to them and touched them and said, “Get up, and do not be afraid.”
8 And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus Himself alone.

Luke 16

19 There was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day.
20 And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores,
21 and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man’s table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores.
22 Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried.
23 In Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried out and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony.
26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you will not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.
27 And he said, Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father’s house—
28 for I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.
29 But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.
30 But he said, No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!
31 But he said to him, If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.

2 Corinthians 5

6 Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord
7 for we walk by faith, not by sight—
8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.
9 Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.

Philippians 1

21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
22 But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose.
23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;
24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.

Revelation 6
9 When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained;
10 and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”

So, if our souls really do lie interred with our bodies in the ground upon our deaths,

1. Was an exception made for Moses? (Elijah never died as you may remember, rather, has was taken to Heaven directly by a chariot of fire)

2. What does the Apostle mean when he speaks of being "absent from the body" and "at home with the Lord"?

3. How could we possibly make "pleasing God" our "ambition" in death if our souls are not alive/conscious after we die?

4. How could the Apostle Paul think that dying (rather than continuing on in fruitful service here, to both God and the church) could be some kind of "gain" (or that an unconscious death of the soul could in any way be "very much better" than living on in service here would be)?

5. Was an exception made again for the souls of the martyrs in Heaven? If they remained with their bodies in the ground, how are they found in Heaven crying out in a loud voice to the Lord?
God bless you!

--David

2 Kings 2
11 It came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

"Until the final resurrection, though, there is a temporary heaven—paradise (Luke 23:43; 2 Corinthians 12:4) and a temporary hell—Hades (Revelation 1:18; 20:13-14). As can be clearly seen in Luke 16:19-31, neither in paradise nor in Hades are people sleeping. It could be said, though, that a person’s body is “sleeping” while his soul is in paradise or Hades. At the resurrection, this body is “awakened” and transformed into the everlasting body a person will possess for eternity, whether in heaven or hell. Those who were in paradise will be sent to the new heavens and new earth (Revelation 21:1). Those who were in Hades will be thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15). These are the final, eternal destinations of all people—based entirely on whether or not a person trusted in Jesus Christ for salvation." That the memory of them is forgotten? (Ecclesiastes 9: 5-6)

And the answer to your question about where we go is in verse ten. Although this is before the cross. (see Luke 16:19-31)

Ecclesiastes 9:10
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.

Does cherry-picking two passages on a subject while ignoring all others really tell us what "the word of god" says on the subject? And are any who disagree (by presenting other scriptures) free to have "their own opinion"?

Ascending has nothing to do with going to heaven for us. We are not ascending to heaven after death nor people claim they are when they die.

After death you are taken to heaven , ascending is
noun
noun: ascension; plural noun: ascensions
the action of rising to an important position or a higher level.

When Christ came he came as servant , made lower of position than Angels then when he fulfilled and resurrected he was made King and ascended from there .

13 And no man hath ascended up to

1 Corinthians 15:50 ESV I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 NIV "and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it."

This is where some Christians don't understand about what happens after death. It's because we are no longer flesh and blood when we return to God.

That's why no man has seen God, because if we did see the Father in our mortal bodies, we would die. Exodus 33:20 ESV “... he said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.

I would have to conclude your opening statement below is based on a false premise. Which assumes we remain in our current state rather than glorified sons of God.

I believe any saint who dies before the Pre-Trib Rapture goes to Abraham's Bosom; But after the Pre-Trib Rapture, all believers who die from that point will go directly to Heaven.

What is Abraham's Bosom?

Abraham's bosom (which is also known as Paradise) is described in Luke 16:19-31. It is a real place of comfort within the spirit realm; A temporary paradise where the saint's soul and spiritual body resides consciously to be with the Lord when their physical body dies (Genesis 3:19) (Ecclesiastes 12:7) (Luke 16:22). This paradise is located within the realm of the dead below the Earth (Which is also known as Sheol or Hades) which is separated by a great gulf from the fiery place of punishment known as "Torments" or what is commonly known as "Hell" (Luke 16:26) (Luke 16:23). It will be a place where the saint will be comforted (Luke 16:25). But, why is Abraham's bosom also called Paradise? Well, on the day of Christ's sacrifice, he had told the thief on the cross that: "This day, you shall be with me in Paradise" (Luke 23:43). But yet, Scripture tells us that when Christ died, he was in the heart of the Earth for three days and three nights, though (Matthew 12:40). So this leads us to conclude that during Christ's three days within the grave before His resurrection, He was with the thief in Abraham's bosom which is located in the heart (or the center) of the Earth.

Does Abraham's Bosom Still Truly Exist Within the Church Age Today?

The real life story (or event) told by Jesus within Luke 16:19-31 took place during the time of Moses (Luke 16:29). However, the important question that must be asked is: Does Abraham's Bosom still exist today, though?

Well, yes, I believe according to the plain reading of Scripture that Abraham's bosom still exists today within our present church age. For all true saints who die in Christ right now will go to be with the Lord down in Abraham's bosom and then later they will be taken up into Heaven when the Rapture occurs. For how else will the dead in Christ rise first? See 1 Thessalonians 4:16. Do the dead in Christ rise to go to Heaven and then come back down somewhere temporarily to be risen again at the Rapture? Do they rise in Christ twice spiritually? If so, where is the verse that explains this?

In fact, many Christians today who are well versed in studying the Scriptures believe they go straight to Heaven; This is a common misconception because they interpret the ascension of Christ mentioned in Ephesians 4:8 as the time of when the saints in Abraham's bosom are being taken to Heaven.

Ephesians 4:8 - "When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive."

In other words, based on this passage, most Christians believe that Christ led those saints who were in captivity in Abraham's bosom captive up into Heaven when Christ ascended. However, is this what Ephesians 4:8 is talking about, though?

No, actually it is actually talking about how when Christ ascended, He bound the enemy or the powers of darkness. How so? Well, our first clue to this fact is to look at the parallel reference of this passage located in Judges chapter five.

Judges 5:12 - "Awake, awake, Deborah: awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Barak, and lead your captives captive, you son of Abinoam."

Now, without boring you with all the details, to make a long story short, if you were to read Judges chapter 5, you would find out that Barak was leading his enemies captive and not his friends. To put it to you another way, the moment a true Christian is born again and then dedicates their life to Christ, they are then no longer Christ's enemy. For those in Abraham's bosom are God's elect or chosen who had put their trust in God to redeem them of their sins (See Luke 16:19-31).

As a matter of fact, Gill's Exposition of the Bible says this...
"He led captivity captive; which is expressive of Christ's conquests and triumph over sin, Satan, the world, death, and the grave; and indeed, every spiritual enemy of his and his people, especially the devil, who leads men captive at his will, and is therefore called captivity, and his principalities and powers, whom Christ has spoiled and triumphed over;"And 2nd Timothy says this...

2 Timothy 2:26 - "And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will. For when Christ had raised from the dead he put all things including the principalities and powers of darkness under his feet."

Therefore, the word "captivity" is a reference to Satan leading people captive to his will and lets us know the true context or meaning behind Ephesians 4:8.

For when Christ had risen from the dead, He put all things including the principalities and powers of darkness under his feet.

Ephesians 1:20-23 "Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all."

God is the god of the living not the Dead. That's why he said that he's the god of Abraham Isaac and Jacob... because they are to this day alive.

If the sin in me dies then there is no more remembrance of him. There are different kinds of death such as the death of the body and the death of the Soul. But you ought not to think that souls die in the same manner that flesh does. the flesh only understands the things of the Flesh and so he interprets all things according to its own light. Just because we should be crucified with Christ doesn't mean our souls stop existing.

God occasionally rearranges the spiritual world. one of those times it went through a huge rearrangement was when Christ came to the world and died and rose again. This was no doubt one reason why he came as a human being to Earth. 2000+ years ago there was a lot of spiritual darkness in some parts. It was a rarity for certain angels to come as Prophets and holy men to help to bring light to the world. In the end it was of course Jesus that made things much clearer for many. God is clever in his designs. there's a reason why there are different nations and genetic attachments.

Abraham was no doubt a powerful Angelic spirit. He had an area of the spiritual World called Abraham's bosom.

Our world is a different place today. there are billions here now and in God and His Saints and Angels reaction there are many different ways to assist when we die. we decide where we go and we get corrected on some errors and who knows what else happens in the introductory to the next life. by its nature the next life would be humongous because there is absolutely no doubt that there are other beings on other planets and countless kinds of Spiritual Beings.

This universe alone is what 13 billion years old? I'm pretty sure that this is not Gods first rodeo. and I doubt the spiritual world has time in the same manner as we understand it in this universe. There may be very many different types of time.

There is a part of the spiritual world that has an attachment to the Earth and so it's times are similar because they are related.

Ecclesiastes 9: 5-6 (King James Version)
...Everyone has freewill and entitlement to their own opinion so what do you think?

I also think people have free will and I believe only righteous will have eternal life. And I think people should read the whole Ecclesiastes, before commenting, because it is also said there that:

And the dust returns to the earth as it was, And the spirit returns to God who gave it…
…For God will bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil.

Ecc.12:7,14

I also believe Heaven is not the permanent resting place for believers, either.
I believe all saints will spend eternity with GOD in the final New Earth (after the Millennium, and the Judgment). New Jerusalem will come down from out of Heaven and land upon the New Earth.

I think people that believe they will live for eternity on the Earth are crazy. Could you at least believe that we have the whole universe to live in? Maybe I don't want to live around so many people all the time. Maybe I don't like cities.

We cannot re-write the Word of God to our own imagining,
or towards what we think is right. For it is written...

"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:1-4).

“Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.” (Revelation 22:14-15).

Those descriptions are of the saints that have no more sin. Beautiful.
