It might sound strange to alot of christians and believers. Particularly newer believers.

They think taht being a christian doesn't have it's surprises. I'm sure alot have heard about the 'fear of God' but not alot of people understand it.

No it's not that fear that you go 'Ahhhhhh! my worst nightmare is here.' though it can be ;).

But the fear i'm talking about is reverence. Great respect. If you work, your boss is big, scary and tends to be not very cool is he's annoyed and angry. You want to please him. You love him and you fear him. That's reverence.

Except God is infinitely more bigger and scary. Yes, He loves you. Oh definetely yes. He IS Love. Why do you think He sent His Son to die for you? If God is just peaches and cream then He's not God. There will be no justice, no convictions, no discipline, no fear to restrain you from sinful desires.

God is a consuming fire. He Is. He disciplines and convicts those He loves.

So, you can take that as a negative thing. I dont think pessimism ever helped me.

But God is mighty and powerful.

As christians, let us keep ourselves humble when we fear God. We should be fearing and revering God. He's not Someone to be messed with.

That is some solid food for you. I can't be proud of myself for what i wrote here. Because i've been in similar situations where pride would creep in and i wouldn't care what God would do to me. But i will move on.

It often seems that the concept of working out ones salvation with fear is lost on the modern church in general. There is a certain flippant attitude towards discipline within the church. Like you, I become complacent with myself, and sometimes for long periods of time. It's disconcerting. I also find it harder and harder to find the sort of fellowship that seemed to characterize almost all my church experience when I was younger. It's almost a feeling of having no place to hide anymore from the assaults of humanistic anti-spiritualism and specifically anti-Christian sentiments even in the church. Posting in a Christian forum, I almost feel like the lone ranger posting for traditional values, and often as not am denounced just because I believe what I read in the Bible, and don't just fold over because someone has supposedly found me a better way to believe which is based, for all I can tell, on very weak rationalisms designed to appeal to people who do not, as you call it, 'fear' God in the sense I feel the Bible teaches.

uh.. a pitfall we often fall into. Emphasising so much on love that we forgot the other side of Him.
yeah, i do fear Him at times, and that's especially when i did something really wrong. I think fear is a good motivation for certain things.

I think God is to be feared out of Godly respect, for where you may fear somethings of this world, if you then don't fear God what an insult, for you fear that which has not the power of God, but the greatness and power of God you fear not.

God is to be feared for all He offers us, because of what greatness He offers us and how easily we can neglect it.

For He offers us all, and we should fear of dropping it as if it's some priceless treasure, which by our carelessness can slip from our hands.

If any of us feared God enough none of us would sin.

Out of fear of God I have ALWAYS refused drugs. Im proud to say that I have never even tried cannabis - whenever I speak to people about it they ask how that can be possible.

Unfortunately I have small compromises in my life. If I feared God enough I wouldnt have them. Im sorting through them now, but its all a learning process!

God Bless, metal.
