Do You Eat Pork?

I just thought I'd randomly throw this in..

my dad, who used to be a pastor and knows the Bible like the back of his hand, told me that if you are ever confused about anything in the Bible, always look at what context it is in. What context the verse is in the chapter, what context the chapter is in the book, what context the book is in the old/new testament, and what context the old/new testament is in the Bible.

Roms 14 does not speak of unclean and clean meats as established by God it says that the weak believers "esteemed" them as such. This is not God's instruction but their own opinions. Paul completely condemns the practice of basing your belief on your opinions(Gal. 4) over the instruction of God. God's instruction is spiritual and mans worldly. There is not a single verse in the Bible that God has allowed his people to eat the unclean animals for any reason. To do so is in violation of specific instruction of his holy word.

when christ spoke of what goes in the mouth not being defiling, but what comes out. He was teaching a spiritual lesson that had absolutely nothing to do with the subject of unclean meats. He was comparing the dirt/germs that went into his disciples mouths because they ate without washing their hands, as being less defiling than the accusations coming out of the mouth of the Jews, based on their own laws. These laws are found in the Mishnah, and Christ constantly challenged their legalistic observance of them.

There is nothing Biblically permissable about eating pork or pork products just because you live in an area that is rampant with them. You should take the oppotunity of where you have been placed as a follower of God's word to witness to your fellow Christians about thses things instead of joining in with such worldly behvior. The blessing is not that he has given you alot of pork to eat...but that he has given you the oppotunity to enlighten the brethren you are surrounded by as to the unGodly nature of the beast.

I hope you are not serious about the pork issue, you really are missing out on some very nice Christmas ham!!! LOL

Nonetheless, if it is a sin to you then do not eat it. But I enjoy a very good ham sandwich with musturd and swiss and I don't sin unless I eat too much! LOL

It is an abomination to God, therefore it is a sin to me. You have totally twisted the issue. Trying to make it seem that God permits it and I choose not to eat it. The truth is he forbids it and you choose to eat it anyway.

Give me a single verse....please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Suggest you read Acts Chapter 10. Vision though it may be Peter was clearly commanded to kill and eat unclean foods...

Wrong behe boy.....Peter was told through the Holy spirit exactly what that vision meant. It had absolutely nothing to do with what he was now allowed to eat. Read the rest of the chapter and see. Or do you think Peter and the holy spirit's interpretation was wrong and that you have a better interpretation? Peter realized that God used that vision to teach him a spiritual lesson about the gentiles because they considered them to be unclean. He never once hinted that he thought it had anything to do with food.

God has used many fabulous, negative and imaginery symbolisms to explain spiritual lessons. The question is; can you look past the imagery and discern the lesson without trying to force the imagery into some literal application. In this case it should be particularly easy since he gave us the EXACT interpretation.

maybe you believe in talking trees and that Christ is a thief, but I believed those things were used to impart truths.

Thank you adam332 for explaining that Bible verse. People always think that Bible verse means God said all animals where "clean" to eat when it wasnt even talking about what we are allowed to eat or not allowed to eat.

Personally I don't eat animals....I have seen Cows and Pigs being insemated just to have babies so humans can eat them (thats cruel)......I dont think God would want us to eat animals if man had to "inpregnant" female animals just so billions of people can eat them.

That verse has been talked about more than once in the last couple of weeks and in much more detail...Behe boy evidently did not finish reading the chapter is all...sometimes when we want to hold onto something we are blinded...it happens to the best of us. By such loose interpretation and plain absence of context it could be said that God endorses cannibalism as well as many other ridiculous things...such as animals that are poisonous to us. No one would think that God is telling us that he cleaned animals so well as to make the deadly ones now harmless. yet, still they continually throw that verse out ther without thinking of the big picture.

Hi sharky. The reason why i keep the health laws is more so that my body be kept healthy. God has a reason to declare certain things unclean because it harms our health. It's like smoking, you don't get throat cancer the next day but you'll get it many years later or some other ailments.

"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are Gods." 1 Cor 6:19-20

Therefore, whatever we injest, we have to make sure that it's not harmful to our bodies.

Yeah folks listen to Acts 10 uncontextually and ignore the Holy spirits interpretation....see where that will get you...the grave.

Signs of poisoning through ingestion include profuse salivation, twitching, vomiting, shallow breathing, and collapse of the hind limbs. Death may occur by cardiac arrest within 15 minutes.

Where you can find pork?

All of the following ingredients are made from or contain pork and should be noted when reading labels:

LECITHIN - Any group of phospholipids found in egg yolks and the plasma membrane of plant and animal cells used as emulsifiers in a wide range of commercial products, including foods, cosmetics, paints and plastics.

GELATIN - a colorless or slightly yellow, transparent, brittle protein formed by boiling the prepared skin, bones and connective tissue of animals.

GLYCEROL/GLYCERIN - a syrupy, sweet, colorless or yellowish liquid obtained from pig fats and oils.

GLYCERYL - used as a solvent, in antifreeze, soaps, plasticizer and a sweetner, used in the manufacture of dynamite, cosmetics, liquid inks and lubricants.

MONO DI-GLYCERIDES - an ester of one or two fatty acids and glycerol.

COLLAGEN - the fibrous protein constituent of bone, cartilage, tendon and other connective tissue, it is converted to gelatin by boiling.

POLYSORBATE - any of a class of emulsifiers used in food preparation and in some pharmaceuticals.

Other ingredients to look for are: ANIMAL FAT, ANIMAL SHORTENING, HYDROLIZED ANIMAL PROTEIN/PROTEIN, ENZYMES, TALLOW, EMULSIFIERS, STABILIZERS (MONO and DI-GLYCERIDES), TWEEN, SWINE PEPSIN, CALCIUM STEARATE, POLY-SORBATES, MONOSTEARATES, and FATTY ACIDS.

That means gummi bears, marshmallows, jello, etc...all contain pork. No more rocky road ice cream either..it has marshmallows. Ice cream with pork...go figure?

Just read that article. Very well written. And i agree with most of what he says. I think there are some of them in the forum that find it uncomfortable accepting what i believe to be admonished by God. But i would urge all of you to keep those guidelines for the sake of your own health. You don't have to treat it as a law if you don't want to. For health sakes.
