I am absolutely shocked at how few people prioritize the truth over their own opinions.

Just today, I had two people tell me, "I'm not interested in that," BECAUSE it goes against what they already believe. They did not check it out, they did not see what it said, and they said they did not want to even look at it because it disagreed with their previously held assumptions.

This baffles me. How can you consider yourself an honest person if you are not prioritizing the truth? I see this all the time. People hear a certain narrative, they are convinced of those narratives, and then there is literally nothing you can say to change their minds. This is confusing to me because most of my life, I have been trying to strive toward what is true. It started, strangely enough, when I was accused of lying by my father. I told him to check out what I was saying, and he didn't, and I was severely punished for it. Then he finds out some time later that I was telling the truth. He wants to apologize to me, but I was absolutely traumatized that my dad didn't listen to me when I was telling him the truth, and when I refused to hug him, I was punished again. Instead of teaching me to lie to get my way, for some strange reason, this had the opposite effect on me, and it made me a truth teller.

I shared this article with someone just to show that I am not a dispensationalist. They didn't care. Doesn't matter that they are saying I am something I am not. The truth is clearly not important to them

I shared the work of Dr. Roland Fryer, a Harvard African American truth teller to someone close to me stating that police are not more likely to shoot minorities, and the person said, "I am not going to waste my time on any commentary committed to denying the role white supremacy plays in policing."

I literally do not understand this. How can people say something and then not care if what they are saying is true or not? I saw another women yesterday post something saying basically, "I stand for this, but if you disagree, I don't want to hear from you." How does that even work? You want to be able to push your views on other people without examining if what you are saying is the right stance or something? I see it ALL. THE. TIME. Why don't people care about the Truth? It's the same thing I run into with atheist all the time. A perfect meme to show this is here:

You need to Prove to Me.jpg

I see this with Protestants and Catholics. Calvinists and Arminians. Anglicans and Wesleyans.

Why is it that so few people are actually pursuing the Truth?

Well, if someone is calling me to give a lot of attention to knowing about good and evil in this world, first my attention needs to be to God and submitting to how He guides my attention.

So, I need to invest my time wisely. And going through an hour of YouTube, when you can probably could tell me what you got, in a few sentences, might not be a good investment.

Maybe . . . instead of giving me a video of what somebody else has said, give me briefly what you got out of it, with scriptures. And we can test it.

And in case you have a dispensationalist idea or a not dispensational idea . . . how does your idea help you to walk with Jesus and grow in how Jesus is in our character, and therefore to be submissive to God and where He guides our attention?

Because how Jesus is is the truth, and how God personally guides us at every moment is the truth of what His will really is.

So, again, what did you get out of the video? And how have you benefited in God's word, because of this?

"Test all things; hold fast what is good." (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

Yeah, very frustrating when people do this for things like the historicity of icon veneration.

As for why people disregard evidence that challenges their beliefs, the easy path is to avoid that struggle, not to "work out your salvation with fear and trembling." It takes humility and introspection to avoid dismissing contrary evidence out of hand, and those don't come naturally except by the grace of God. That doesn't mean we have to listen to every half-baked conspiracy theory, but within reason, there are some things that warrant serious consideration, even if it takes effort for that consideration to be serious.

Our egos are fragile. We go through all kinds of contortions to protect them, which leads to all kinds of problems...

Praise God for people like this Dr. who thought outside the box to find truth. The Doctor Who Drank Infectious Broth, Gave Himself an Ulcer, and Solved a Medical Mystery

Though most churches do not practice this, here is a true seeker's scripture.
1 Corinthians 14:26 (NASB)
26 What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

What I said is >

That's not all you said.

What I got out of it is that it is a story about a man who went from rags to being one of the best economists in the world. In his research, he shows that minorites are more likely to get "roughed up" by police but they are NOT more likely to get shot by police. Watch the video as that will be better than me giving a summary. I explain the basic takeaway to the people I shared the video with. They didn't care.

Why is it that so few people are actually pursuing the Truth?

As a philosopher, truth is something I prefer over my own guesswork. The problem comes in the fact that there is no metaphysical or epistemological agreement among people as to what the term 'truth' is or can perfectly apply to. As Christians, we can say we identify truth as a quality of the Bible or a quality of God Himself, but this is a theological proposition that is contingent on trust in God's revelation rather than on clear and direct demonstration of the matter.

Add to the above complications the fact that among us are various epistemic positions: some people are what are known as 'idealist,' some are 'realist,' some are 'anti-realist.' The last of these sees the world in which we are embedded and lived in as essentially a sheer mental construct rather than an immediate apprehension of actual aspects of the world.

And what does this mean for our disagreements among ourselves about the nature of 'truth'? It means that as Christians, we'll have to work against the Modern and Post-Modern notion that the 'real world' is whatever we think it is or whatever we think we can pragmatically 'make' out of it. And so, we'll find ourselves down in the philosophical Rabbit Hole, having similar encounters to those that Alice experienced while in Wonderland and attempting to get to the 'truth' of this or that matter.

I definitely want God's truth over man's opinion.
