I hear what you are saying about the cheap parts, but that's exactly what upsets myself and my clients. A brand new piece of equipment dying within a year. They don't appreciate the fact that that is what they wanted, what they ordered. They don't appreciate that you get what you pay for. They blame me for selling them low end junk and it reflects poorly on my business.

For myself, I don't want the part kaffing on me in nine months. I don't want to have to pull my computer apart to have to replace it. That isn't fun for me. I just want to sit down and enjoy my puter. I want it to be fast, compatible and reliable. That's why I spend the extra money. I buy the 10,000 RPM harddrive, the Asus mainboard, the OCZ RAM, all the quality products that will give my machine performance and reliability. It makes it so much more enjoyable

I forgot all about the cable sleeving.

I would like to see the pics when you get them. In the meantime I should hurry over to that store and order the parts so I can do it myself. Thanks for the reminder.

With all the joy and satisfaction that within one year the components in your computer will cost half as much as what you paid for 'em.

This drives me nuts!!! My husband builds the odd computer for people and I don't know how many times people have asked for all the lastest stuff and then only want to pay $200 max for it!! You'll spend that alone on the lastest video card (which they always want)!!

That's the reality of buying leading edge components. Doesn't bother me though It's not true in all cases either.

Finally, I can upload a pic of my fav corner.

Gee wiz, Doc. Got enough computer equipment? I'm jealous, scumbag. Just kidding! I could never afford to buy all that expensive stuff you mentioned; that's why I have to rationalize buying the cheaper parts.

lol It's my one and only hobby (besides my Cichlids) so I rationalize the huge expenditures by saying it gives me enjoyment. Only thing you can't see in that picture is the router, USB harddrive, USB hubs and a wierd sheet feed scanner I picked up because it was neater than the other one I had.

Next thing on my list is a 23" flat panel to replace this monitor that I have now. Problem is that it's big money so it's going to have to wait until I rob a couple more banks.

I build my own computers. I can choose the parts I want and the brands and how much RAM, etc. I can upgrade at anytime and dont have to worry about odd shaped brand name computers or having to get a specialised person in to fix it. It is also a lot cheaper and at the rate computers go out of date, why by brand name? Building them is fun.

FYI The other good thing about building your own computers....

Trickle down upgrades

I Upgrade My system, the old stuff goes to the Server, the old stuff from the server goes to the wife's system, and her old stuff goes to my daughters system

Buy 1 CPU Upgrade, and get 4 Computers upgraded out of it, Great way to save a little money.

Ok, because I'm a poor fella, this is what I could afford to build:

Asus A7V ver1.05 RAID motherboard (~$25 on E-bay)
Athlon XP 1900+ processor ($50 OEM)
512MB PC133 RAM (purchased over the coarse of 2 years ~$60 total)
C-media cmi8768 6.1 channel sound card (~$20)
Radeon 8500LE 128MB AGP graphics card (~$65 on E-bay)
20GB 7200RPM ATA100 WD HDD (pulled from "old" system ~$60?)
Generic 52x CD-ROM (~$20)
Imation Superdisk 120MB LS120 floppy (yes, I still have this retro thing!!)
Generic 56k modem (from "old" system)
Samsung 753df 17" Flat Screen monitor (~$200)

It works for me. It really is a very nice computer.

Not that much, I think. I don't know if they even make 20gb drives anymore.

Heh. Vintage. Nice.
Samsung 753df 17" Flat Screen monitor (~$200)
That monitor is the bomb. I used one for the longest time before I got my flat panel.

Nice system. I'm looking to build one like that for my boss that will probably end up being a similar price.
