Yes. For example...

Ephesians 1:13-14, "In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory."

Romans 8:38-39, "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

John 10:27-29, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are one."

It depends.

I don't buy the thing where, if someone loses faith, they get told they never had it; I find it deeply offensive. They may, of course, still be saved for all I know. But... Hebrews implies that some fall away. I don't know how to reconcile all these verses, myself.

Hi seebs, I may be able to help there; if you interested in another opinion. :)

First, Do you believe in a future restoration of Israel into a millennial kingdom - a period also referred to as a "REST" ?

Not particularly. I have very close to no opinion at all about most eschatology. It seems to me that there's an awful lot of speculation, and that if I simply wait and focus on what I can do to better follow Christ now, I will find out soon enough.

I tend to agree, we'll find out soon enough... However, sometimes looking at God's plan for the future help's to reconcile those pecky verses (Hebrews, James... etc... )

I know that I believe in once saved always saved theology. I have had doubts about it in the past though because of certain verses. But I have since reconciled those for the most part. If once saved always saved wasn't true, I would have been permanently damned within months of first receiving salvation. I have had a tendency to backslide throughout my Christian life unfortunately. :( But praise be to God that he brings me back everytime!

Seebs, this is the explanation I heard while going to a Fundamentalist Baptist Church for Hebrews 6:4-6. Here is the verses in the KJV:

[bible]Hebrews 6:4-6[/bible]

The explanation that I remember (I may not have it fully correct as it's been a while since I was told this) was that it is only humanly impossible to restore one again to repentence and that it must be motivated by God before repentance has occurred.

I have also heard another explanation that basically says that these verses are referring to those who came very close to salvation but turned away at the last moment. I am a little more skeptical of this explanation because the verse seems to clearly indicate that they were truly saved.

Also, a quick Google search reveals a number of pages that discuss these particular verses.

God Bless!

:amen: Amen! Why would God choose me to partake in His wonderful gift of salvation only to let me lose it later on? Answer, He wouldn't!

 Yes, I agree with GEL on this, nice answer - it's a reality, not a theology.

While I still can sin, God has changed me inside out over the years since I was saved and I believe he holds my future and I am His-sealed for the day of redemption. The Bible says
Joh 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. out

To believe that a person who has received God's grace and then, for some reason (regardless of what it might be) that person loses that same grace is to say that God lied! When we receive God's grace, we are "born again" by being baptized in (with) the Holy Spirit. God seals us in that state for all eternity. Because of that same gift of grace, we become His servants, or His slaves if you will. We are His personal property from the instant of our true and real belief in Jesus as the Son of God.

Just as we are incapable of doing anything of ourselves to receive salvation, so are we incapable, as Christians, of doing anything that would cause us to lose our salvation. That is not meant to imply that we are sinless and pure from that instant onward, only that any sins we might commit are already forgiven by a God who tells us that, if we love Him and His Son, He loves us so very much more. You can take that to the bank.
