I put this one together using reftagger. I copied it from Wiki but added the function of reftagger. Hover your mouse over each verse citation to read it without clicking it. Very educational and should be wonderful for those who wish to wallow in the Law...

Ha good post very good post. I read one that said you shall not interpret omens etc or tell fortunes and Daniel does something like that later on for kings via dream interpretations.
Some of those rules come out when people are attempting to sway opinions one way or another but like you said if you want to enforce one as a rule you may put yourself in a position of needing to obey them all.
really good thread I'll give you rep for that.

Lol don't be daft, no Jew ever had to follow all 613 subsidary laws...it was an impossibility, and was never expected anyway. Very odd question

If we had to do that it would be a pretty heavy burden to carry.

Yeah. They need a Savior.

Everyone needs the Saviour. ;)

But no one ever kept all 613 Mitzvot...even Jesus would not have been able to do so.

Let's see...He created the Earth and everything in it, He aligned sun perfectly to support life, He created the solar system, the Milky Way, billions upon billions of galaxies each containing billions upon billions of stars....

I'm inclined to believe He could follow them just fine. He is, after all, the one who wrote them.

He broke the sabbath a few times, touched lepers and women with blood. Those are all forbidden by the Torah.

Oh come on. I've read through the entire Bible multiple times. He's God. The words "God can't" do not go together.

I really don't think you have read them closely enough or you wouldn't be getting so indignant. :)

Okay.

Good to know.

So, how many would I be able to shave off and still be righteous?

Also, how would I know if it was really permissable with God to shave off those ones?

After shaving some off, how many would I be left with?

613 Laws of the Old Testament

(p.s. for Summa, my reply is to the title of the thread itself rather than the OP).

no, Christians should not keep all 613 laws. Even a Jew cannot keep all 613 laws. Even Jesus could not keep all 613 laws.

Questions like this actually indicate a lack of awareness generally as to the nature of the law, the scope of the law, the intent of the law and the duration of the law!

All the above can actually be answered by reading the Torah, unfortunately many Christians find it boring, intimidating or simply old, replaced by something better.

actually none of these things Jesus did broke anything.

Jesus broke extra-biblical customs around the Sabbath in the context of healing (see tractate Shabbat in Mishnah)

Jesus touched a leper and women with blood... this is not the direct breaking of a command at all, in fact the Torah lays down specific rules what to do on these occasions.

Steve

p.s. if Jesus deliberately broke any of the commandments, then he is not my spotless ram who takes away my sin, nor my spotless lamb who redeems me!
