You are correct, and your hermeneutics on this thread, and others have been outstanding, keep up the good work. Alex.Exactly...James is not speaking of just the 10 commandments...he is speaking of the entire 613 commandments of Torah.
May God bless your tireless efforts, in you pursiut of truth. You also are doing a fine job, in your seasoned exegetical usage, of the text. I have been blessed by your fine work. Alex.I find it interesting that Jemes uses the word law and not commandments in the 2 verses. This does 2 things for me. One it establishes the 10 Cs as the law and 2 it says the law which is used in referenct to the law (Torah) of Moses which includes the 10 Cs.
You are arguing from an abstract, because it is widely accepted, in all academic circles, that the few Gentiles, who were in the synagogues, were at best "god fearers", as you have been shown. Do you have any clear doctrine, from Peter, John, or Paul, in any form, in an imperative manner, to show that the church, was bound by Sabbath law?Firstly money can be collected without a church service may not even be money, food and clothes. Secondly If it is collected at a gathering or a service it does not mean they did not observe the sabbath before. As you know we meet in church gatherings more than once a week and SDA's meet on Sabbath and Sundays.
The point we accept something that is not plainly stated while rejecting that which was.
Thank you but there is more to the verse. It shows that you are aware of what is, you just reject all as support for Sabbath keeping. How come no one informed Jesus, who was in constant tact with His Father, that the sabbath would have been no more. In Mat. 24 Jesus is taking about the future. Would He not have known that His death would bring an end to the Sabbath, or Paul for that matter? There is no support for the fact that Lydia seller of purple wasn't a Jewess or was a gentile. This is a far cry from proving the mentioned was with gentiles exclusively. In fact these aren't the group that ask to hear more the next sabbath.
Oh please!
It's a key to Hell.Hello. Lurker Alex here. I am having the hardest of times undertanding why, with all the overwhelming preponderance of evidence, being presented here, to disprove your views, you maintain such rigidity, to facts, and scripture. If your fellow members show you a key, why not open the door?
It wasn't. There was no need to mention it. Paul was meeting on the Sabbath all the time. Why would ask that the sabbath be kept it was? Why was Jesus ignorant of the removal of Sabbath? Mat 24:20You are arguing from an abstract, because it is widely accepted, in all academic circles, that the few Gentiles, who were in the synagogues, were at best "god fearers", as you have been shown. Any commands, any teaching, other than this fallacious repetitive posting you are doing, which proves nothing, we need doctrine please. This is a theology forum, not a speculation forum. I challenge, you because you started the thread, but so far have not provided doctrine, teaching, etc. Paul talk the time to talk of head coverings in Corinth, why would Sabbath be ignored? Thank you very much.
It is the Sabbath of our Father, the God of the universe. the Seventh DayI think we should, including the sabbath and by sabbath I do not mean the sabbath of my fathers but Sunday.
Mary kept all the sabbaths for she was Jewish. The full knowledge of What Christ represents was not revealed in full till He went and sent the HS. You have yet to preach the doctrine of Paul or Peter where they preached keeping of the sabbath. For the Law was fulfilled by Christ. This means that it was finsihed and now we have a new covenant. His blood. It is the Sabbath of our Father, the God of the universe. the Seventh Day
that he Blessed and sanctified. The Sabbath that was kept by the Mary and the other when He was in the tomb. The Sabbath of the Ten Commandments.
Christ spoke of the future in Mat 24 and mentioned the Sabbath even at a time after the Holy Spirit was out poured. Are you telling that Jesus made a mistake? Or that He did not know what He was taking about?Mary kept all the sabbaths for she was Jewish. The full knowledge of What Christ represents was not revealed in full till He went and sent the HS. It is made clear that we as Christians are under grace and are save by grace by faith.
Does that mean that we do not keep the 10 commandments?
A Jehovah's witness made it a point of telling me that the commandments are abolished. My next question was, can I have sex with you?
Answer, No!
Why Not?
We have to keep the spirit of the law.
What! The law died and the spirit lives?
Is that what we believe?
Does that make sense?
If we acknowledge that we can not lie or steal or commit adultery, do we not acknowledge that the law is still for us?
1Co 9:20 And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, not being myself under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
1Co 9:21 to them that are without law, as without law, not being without law to God, but under law to Christ, that I might gain them that are without law.
In terms of covenant or contract these words are close. In saying abolished we aren't saying blotted out of memory or annihilated. The words are used to mean that the OC no longer has jusridiction. The obligations of that covenant (contract) has been met and is fullfiled and no longer of assistance in accomplishing anything.Christ spoke of the future in Mat 24 and mentioned the Sabbath even at a time after the Holy Spirit was out poured. Are you telling that Jesus made a mistake? Or that He did not know what He was taking about?
Since when did fulfill mean finish or abolished.
I think a study of scripture helps answer the question,..
This is from the early Alexandrian manuscripts, and here we see Paul stating two things,..
1) that he was not under the law of moses,
2) that he was under the law of Christ.
Two separate covenants.
So in answer to your question, the law of moses does not dictate what the Christian is to do since they are no longer under it, they are under the law of Christ and are led by The Holy Spirit.
fulfilled means completed. Just as Jesus said. It is finished. Mathew 24 is about the tribulation. Jesus speaking to the house of Isreal. But God has saved a remenant for Himself. In terms of covenant or contract these words are close. In saying abolished we aren't saying blotted out of memory or annihilated. So is this speculation to promote an idea? I think your whole argument is based this way.Firstly money can be collected without a church service may not even be money, food and clothes.
