  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you agree that christians should keep the 10 Commandments? (4)

That the old man has passed away and the new man has arisen in me. For I walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Therefore nullifying the deeds of the flesh. I live in communion with Christ every minute of every day.

If we're in the Spirit we literally don't commit works of the flesh. The Spirit doesn't give us freedom to disobey the Lords commandment. Is this what you are saying?

Would you say that love for God is the reason not to commit fornication?

Sure all the law depends on those 2 commands. And that is all it says. IOW stealing isn't love and right on down the list.

Which of the 2 greatest commandments does abstaining from fornication fall under? Is it love God with all your heart?

Does the Spirit give us the freedom to sin? No! Can one only sin if they are committing acts the law condemns one for? No! Sin was in the world before the law Rom 5:13 and Gal 3:19. Then has sin become righteous? No!

Neither. How is love committing fornication?

Love for God is not committing fornication.

If we love God we obey His commandments. If we love God we obey His will. His will and commandment is abstaining from fornication.

What are those commandments? Yes I know this sounds like a stupid question. But is it really? I read things like Jn 15:10 and I Jn 3:23 and have to disagree. I think the problem lies in understand what commandments are being talked about. I don't think they're the 10 Cs as insisted by the SDA croiwd. Remember that John wrote all three (5 of them) books.

Have you read the Sermon on the Mount? Or this: A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. Jn 13:34.

Possibly that is new. But the point is that love God with all your heart and love thy neighbor are in the OC.

I read Jesus saying My commandments, not the 10 Cs. Jn 15:10 - If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love; even as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

The life promised and provide for in this Scripture is the temporal life and not eternal life.

Jesus doesn't teach the law. I have already quoted Jn 13:34 which Jesus said was a new commandment. He by passes the law in Jn 8:1-11. Jesus states you have heard it said...but I say... (something different) in the Sermon on the Mount.

So you agree with me then.

If we believe in Him we do what He commands us to do. We are commanded to be doers of the word not just hearers of it.
And where does Jesus commmand us to keep the law? If anything He plainly states it will do no good in respect to securing eternal life or entrance to heaven. He further states you will come through Him or you won't get in or have access to the Father (God).

Abstaining from fornication is a commandment given through the apostles. Its the will of God.

What happens if we don't follow His example?

So I guess it isn't following the law that counts in the end.
