atheists will use excuses as God is cruel as with slavery ,sexism etc in the old testament and even new.
do we try and defend God of these things or do we say so what God is God ,that's just the way it was then they knew no difference?
God doesn't have to defend Him self to us .
atheists are still slaves to sin ,we are free in Christ.
nobodies more loving than God He loves thoughs that love Him.
He showed His love for this world in Christ.
just because society has changed and we think today these things are cruel ,does this make it so?
didn't God always tell us to love our neighbour.
the only thing that's changed is forgiveness in Christ.
we are told to love our enemies now also.
is the only reason people think God was once cruel and unfair ,because He has offered us forgiveness ,before this we would know no different and would never have called Him a cruel God.
it's only now that He offers us forgiveness which we don't deserve that we somehow think He was not just and loving before this.
anyway got to go now .
be grateful of some resposes to this.
God bless.

You may have something there. We are always to give an answer for our faith to those that ask, but Jesus was silent before His accusers. He knew so much more of where He was going, unlike us, in that He was one with God; and that fact alone makes us different, and maybe able to reason with the world and atheist, if one has the gift. God's Spirit is not bound by a box or book that it may not go forth and loose the bonds of another just by the living Word, just as DaTsar said. Some with insight given by their experience and the fruit of the Holy Spirit may try out of their love to convince the atheist, but it is always God that gives the increase.

My view is that, as part of a believer's witness, we should counter such claims of God's supposed cruelty. Also, I think it is profitable to point out that most cases of true cruelty resulted because of human action, not God's. However, in our testimony of God's love and mercy, we need always to evidence the fruits of the Spirit. In other words, it is NOT profitable to bash someone over the head with bible verses and condemn them to hell for their views. The old adage about catching more flies with honey than with vinegar applies. No, God definitely does not need us to defend Him. He however, does require that we stand up for what we believe....as part of our testimony of Him. Where we lose focus is when we allow vengefulness and self righteousness to subvert our motives for defending Him. I say that as one who has been guilty of that myself, so am not casting stones. Also, one has to be able to discern at what point one is casting one's pearls before swine.
