  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do we really need Baghdad?

I don't really understand this war. Maybe because I do not read up enough on it. But do we really need to take Baghdad. Or if we do, what is the hurry? We have the oil fields, we have cut Saddam off from his source of money. Why don't we just liberate the Kurds and the other ethnic groups that want to be free from Saddam and set them up as their own country?

Saddam has already lost control over half of what he had. Do we really need to take it all? Or if we do, is there really all that big of a hurry to get it away from him?

The US odesn't want to have Iraq split up. Turkey and Iran would have a fit(not to mention lots of other countries). Of course winning the war is the easy part. What the heck you do with it all when you win is the real pickle. It would seem that the world at large doesn't view the coalition as liberators but as an imperialist army.

People need to remeber the Russian experience in Afganistan and in Grozny(sp?). Just because you have the tech/power to win a war doesn't mean that you win the people. In my opinion we are going to get creamed in the long run. We will win the war, our troops will perform excellently but the foreign policy that is directing it is misguided at best.
