What do you think?

Personally I have my doubts about hybrid creatures that part demon, part Man. I know angels can appear in the form of humans, but that doesn't mean they have physical bodies that can procreate with people.

Of course I know Giants exist, I just don't think in the non-human sense of the word.

What is your opinion on whether or not these creatures existed or not?

And if you believe the Nephilim exist, what interpretation (since I know the whole half angel hybrids isn't the only interpretation of them)?

And why are they even mentioned in the bible (what was the purpose of them being put in the bible?)

Is there proof that they are or aren't a Myth?

O, well sorry for posting this topic then.

sometimes it is better to make a new thread then just add on to olllllld threads lol

this way we can get new conversations going with a slightly different nuance going?

anyways

I think that the Nephilim are most likely angelic/human hybrids

most people in my Church do not think this

I do not think that it is worth arguing over though

Gen 6:1 When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them,
Gen 6:2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.
Gen 6:3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years."
Gen 6:4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.
Gen 6:5 The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

It seems the following questions need to be addressed in any explanation:

a. who are the Sons of God, and why are they described in that way? Other biblical texts would be helpful.

b. Is "man" in verse 1 contrasted with "sons of God" in verse 2?

c. Why would a union between the daughters of man and the sons of God be sinful? Is the term "take as their wives" accurate, or does it indicate siezing by force?

d. Who are the Nephilim? Are they distinct from the sons of God?

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.

The time period of their presence is specified when the sons of God came to the daughters of men and bore children. Are the Nehilim the the same as the sons of God, or are they the offspring produced, or neither? Does the word mean giants? Fallen ones? And if it primarily means fallen ones, why refer to them in this fashion here? What is the those days and afterward? Does this indicate they are no longer around at the time of the writing of the author?

e. Why would the union of the sons of God and daughters of men create "Nephiliim" who were mighty men of old, men of renown"

"sons of God" simply refers to men, and "daughters of men" simply refers to women. Of the offspring born to men and women, some became great men, mighty men of renown.

This is one of the reasons I can't stand the KJV. Giants and cockatrices and unicorns, oh my!

There were giants then in the same way that there are giants now.

They were unusually tall people for their time and place.

Hello. Technically the nephilim weren't crosses between men and demons, but between men and angels. They became the demons after they died.

Fyi, here are four of the early church fathers talking about them and their fallen dads. This supernatural interpretation of the "sons of God" and the "nephilim" held sway in the church until Augustine, afaik.

If I were you I would go on Youtube and look up L.A. Marzulli he is the leading expert on the Nephilim at least that I know of.
