  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If energy can’t be destroyed, where does it return to?

E=mc2, when we get to the nuts and bolts of the universe, matter and energy are "basically" the same. That's how it works now.

Things do get weird when quantum mechanics gets involved. Physicists have been searching for the holy grail of physics by trying to find out a unified theory of everything. Because as of right now, we basically understand the universe through two separate models; one on the macroscopic (the Standard Model) and one on the microscopic (Quantum Theory). This is where those weird things like "String Theory" that sometimes get touted about come from, attempts to figure out how it all works together--but most theories like this end up not working, because the math doesn't fully work, and our observations end up meaning we have to discard or modify these theories. At present, there just isn't a unifying theory.

But that's probably more than this thread needed. As far as energy and matter are concerned, they can be converted from one to another. A good working example of this is the car you drive every day. Matter is converted to energy, burning fuel causes the pistons and parts of the engine to turn, and you have energy--heat, which causes kinetic--things move. You put your foot on the gas pedal, and the car moves forward. Energy can also become matter. We see this every day too, with plants. Plants soak up the radiation of the sun and through photosynthesis convert it into food which sustains them.

Time is a tricky thing. Our perception of time here and now is based upon the current rules of how the universe functions...
24 hours = 24 elders
12 hours = 12 disciples

The Hour hand represents the macros
the minute hand represents the medios
the second hand represents the micros.

The hour hand lags the minute hand.
and the minute hand lags the second hand.

therefore the micros leads the macros in terms of time.
hence when macros become micro through distance, we get huge lag in time.

I know that physicists say there are proven 11th dimensions, and they use this to disprove God's existence.

That’s not correct. Some forms of String Theory suggest there are 11 dimensions, but thus far no one has any idea how to test that hypothesis, and thus some argue its not even deserving of the title “theory”, but even if there are eleven dimensions, it has no impact on whether or not God exists.

Off topic somewhat but my old pastor said one "sign" that somebody had died was that "clocks stop". Not every time obviously but enough to be more than coincidence.

I think we might have had one instance in our own household many years ago when my maternal grandparents died. A clock they gave to my mother for a wedding present stopped working, but that was a long time ago. I'm not sure about that one.

Anyway I was curious about this. There used to be one of those watch repair, engraving, battery replacement booths in a local shopping centre. I knew the bloke who owned it was a watchmaker by trade, although by that time watch repairs were seldom carried out due to digital circuitry.

I happened to catch him as he was shutting up for the day. I told him what the pastor had said and asked him if he'd had experience with people saying clocks had stopped when someone had died in the family.

He replied "Often!" He went on to say that usually they just needed a service to start again but he'd had a lot of customers come to him with a clock or clocks that had stopped at the very minute when someone died.

I think it might be a trade secret of the watchmakers guild, although they're dying out as a feature of modern life due to digital circuitry.

Maybe the Heaven where Jesus is now seated on his Throne, is a place similar to our 3D world where it is at the boundary of the universe?
Jesus is in the flesh in heaven, and according to Catholic & Orthodox theology, so is Mary, along with Elijah and Enoch per the Old Testament. Those souls in heaven currently don't have their bodies yet, but will on the final day.

Plants soak up the radiation of the sun and through photosynthesis convert it into food which sustains them.

The plants don't convert the sunlight into food. They use the sunlight to power the process which utilises existing atoms, primariy carbon, to build their mass. They use the energy of sunlight to change water and carbon dioxide into glucose.

A tree is apparently about 95% carbon which is why they are good carbon traps.

Enzymes are involved in biological reactions, including photosynthesis, and this is one reason I believe in intelligent design. Without these complex 3D molecules in the first place there would be no biological reactions.

It takes 10 steps to convert glucose to pyruvate which is apparently a " ... the conjugate base, CH3COCOO−, is an intermediate in several metabolic pathways throughout the cell."

An enzyme is involved every single step of the way. No enzymes, no biological reactions.

Enzymes accelerate the rates of such reactions by well over a million-fold, so reactions that would take years in the absence of catalysis can occur in fractions of seconds if catalyzed by the appropriate enzyme.

As for clocks ticking, there will be some sort of "time" in heaven in the sense that there will be a sequence of events, a before and after. When Satan rebelled he could not "go back in time" and reverse his decision. His choice was irrevocable.

There will be also some sort of "spiritual environment" but we have no idea what it will be like. Saints have had visions of both heaven and hell.

Some report flowers, music and smells of such beauty that all earthly pleasures fade in comparison - in heaven that is.

Others have reported a stinking sulfurous heat in their visions of hell. I suppose if we want an earthly allegory we could gaze upon a beautiful garden on earth with a first class orchestra playing in the background, or peer into the bowels of a volcano and listen to the roar.

But there will be no clocks and no Henry Fords making sure we live by the clock.

Do our clock ticks when we are in Heaven or The New Jerusalem?
Are we still concerned about time? Today, tomorrow .............?
Or we do not care about time when we met our Lord?

I assume if a being has neither beginning nor end, tracking the passage of time makes little to no sense. Tracking time becomes important with movement, but it especially becomes important with the generation and degeneration of entities. Take away the degeneration of all entities and "missing an appointment" no longer means much. I'll just get to it later.

We have a beginning but no end. Assuming our state in the next age will consist of only entities with no end, wearing a watch might be something to do just to pass the time but whatever it is can wait since there is always plenty of time.
