Dear sister in Christ. Let me speak to your heart as a pastor
not to condemn you, but to remind you of the truth of who you are in Christ, and to lovingly stir up your spirit with the Word of God.
Your honesty is powerful. You're not hiding behind religion. You're not pretending. You're speaking from a pit—but hear me:
God meets us in the pit. You're not the only one who’s been there.
Joseph Was in the Pit, but God Was in the Plan
You're right Joseph was thrown into a pit (Genesis 37:24).
It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t his fault. But
God was still with him:
Joseph didn’t stay in the pit. He didn’t stay in the prison. And
you won’t either, because
God is writing a story through your life even the broken chapters.
Your Addiction Doesn’t Disqualify You
You said something deep: “I feel like I’ve been doing nothing, especially during my addiction.” I hear your heart and I want to tell you something boldly:
Your past addiction does not cancel your calling.
Look at Paul. Before he was an apostle, he persecuted the church (Acts 9).
God didn't wait for him to clean himself up. God met him in the mess and changed everything.
You are
not what your addiction was. You are
not the product of the wrong people.
You are who God says you are.
The Devil Wants You Stuck But God Calls You Forward
You're exactly right again:
Yes! That’s his strategy to keep you stuck, ashamed, small, and silent.
But God gave you dreams for a reason. You were not born to “do nothing.” You were created
for purpose.
Even in the waiting, God is
working. Joseph waited over a decade. David was anointed king but went back to tending sheep. Jesus waited 30 years for a 3-year ministry.
So waiting does not mean wasting.
When Religious People Hurt You... Jesus Still Heals
You also mentioned being hurt by famous religious celebrities. That pain is real. That betrayal cuts deep. But may I remind you:
Jesus understands church hurt. He was betrayed by Judas, denied by Peter, abandoned by His closest friends.
But He didn’t walk away from the Father and neither should you.
Here's What You Can Do Now:
- Talk to God honestly, like you're doing now.
- Don’t isolate. Find a Christ-centered community that won’t judge your past but will fight for your future.
- Start doing one small thing in obedience. You’re not stuck, you’re in a transition.
Remember, You’re Not a “Do-Nothing”
You're a child of God.
You’re not forgotten. You’re being formed. You may be in a pit now, but there’s a palace in your future. And the same God who brought Joseph from the pit to the palace
can and will do it for you too.
Keep holding on. Keep showing up.
Don’t quit before your breakthrough.
If you'd like, I can pray with you or help you find Scriptures to stand on daily. You're not alone in this.
You're loved. You're chosen. You're called.
Grace and peace to you, in Jesus’ name.
Pastor Waris,
