  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok I was told by Amanda that I should have posted this topic here, so here it is.

1.Does God talk to you?
2.How often?
3.How do you recognize God talking to you?
4.Testimonies in detail.

This isn't about being saved, or being in right standing with God, after all God talked to the devil in the bible. What it is about is just straight up, do Catholics hear from God.
If you don't want to talk about this topic, thats cool with me.

To the first question, no. You have answered me, but I want hear from others as well. I aslo want to have  and give some opinions on the matter. As I told Amanda (who agreed that my intentions were good on the other thread), is chelcb the supreme authority of the Catholic church?

For your second question. I don't want to know this badly. I just think its a good subject, one that is very, very important in my life, so I just want to know where the Catholic church is on it.

To Sunstone:

If you want to know where the Catholic CHURCH is on it, check the CCC or even the Vatican website.

All you are getting from us is where certain, specific CATHOLICS are on the subject. We get our guidance from the Church.

Peace be with you,

No but I like to think that I am, LOL ;)

If I recall correctly, Amanda did tell you that I answered you well enough and that is why the thread was closed. What else other than yes God speaks to us do you not understand? Tell me, what business of it is yours that you should ask us about our personal experiences with God? Some things are not meant to be discussed on a public forum for the world to view, some things are personal you know. You should not be badgering anyone into telling you personal stuff about his or her prayer life. It’s simply none of your business. That is why Amanda closed the thread but I think that subtle hint must have gone over your head.

Yes, Catholics hear from God. God speaks to us through His Church.
Mass is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth so yes, I would say God speaks to me at Mass.

I usually only discuss this subject with people close to me. So I will skip the "testimonies in detail."

Amanda just gave a quick close to the thread, but she told me that people were getting out of hand. She said my motives were good, but out of fear of people mud slinging out of control she closed the thread. Think about it why else do they close threads?

Annabel (pretty name) Lee
Why wouldn't you want to share how the Lord talks to you? Why wouldn't you want to give testimonies? Paul did all over the place, telling about how Jesus blinded him, and he wrote letters to churchs, saying about his experiences. Even Jesus said "I only do what I see the Father in heaven do"

"And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men."

Perhaps Annabel is following Christ's very good advice and keeping her relationship with God a personal and private one.

So was Jesus wrong for praying for people in public?

What Jesus was talking about there was "hypocrites: for they love to pray.....that they may be seen of men." If I remember correctly He said they have there reward.

But prayer isn't what I am talking about, I perposly left that out, and that is for another thread.

Jesus said that He only does what He sees His Father in heaven do. In other words, He is telling you that the Father is talking to Him.

We are not Jesus.

What Jesus was talking about there was "hypocrites: for they love to pray.....that they may be seen of men." If I remember correctly He said they have there reward.

While He may have given that as a reason, the statement was the unambiguous "do not do this".

Jesus said that He only does what He sees His Father in heaven do. In other words, He is telling you that the Father is talking to Him.

Prayer, and talking to God, sound like the same thing to me.

Ok I will take a different route. Did Peter pray in public? Did Paul pray in public?

Tell me what it says in James for the sick to do? Who are they supposed to see? What are the people that the sick see, supposed to do?

When two believers in the book of acts were told not to preach Jesus any more and they were flogged for it, what did they do when they were released? Did they pray to God in public and asked God to give them a sign?

What does a prophet do? Does he not tell what God has revealed to him in public?

Sunstone: I am not yet Catholic. I have a very close relationship to God... But only that of a humble servant. I do feel that God directs me and speaks to my soul... it is my responsibility to listen. I have had incredible experiences of enlightenment... both natural and supernatural... that has nourished my Faith.

Not too long ago, I was like you. I viewed the Catholic Church as offensive to God. But the more I searched for evidence... the more I found God there, among the pages of its Catechism.

Still I can not say that I am choosing to be Catholic.

I believe that it is the Spirit that is pushing and pulling me toward the Church. For unexpectedly, one day deep within me, came a strong desire to be in the Church that was founded by Christ.

Now THAT is one subject that I debated many a Catholic that claimed their church to be "THE Church". You can imagine my surprise when from within me came the knowledge that this is truth.

I do not know where my walk with God will lead ... but for now I am standing on the threshold of the Catholic Church.

I commend your desire to find answers. I pray that you will be received, and answers will be given that reflect the LOVE that we all carry as Christians. Please understand that, you too, are expected to follow the example set by Christ. In all things show the LOVE that Jesus has commanded of his disciples.

So ask your questions and listen to the answers.

May God Bless us all. :)

He told us in another thread that it is because of things that his own preacher has said about the Catholics.

Sunstone admires and respects his preacher so I give him credit for not just accepting what he says. He has come to the Catholic Forum seeking truth.

Thanx Stormy.

Wether I think Catholics are Christian, is for another thread. I don't know if Catholics have a relationship with God, thats why I am hear to talk to Catholics about it.

Sterotyping would be me saying you were this or that, I am simply asking some questions.

1. Yes
2. A lot, probably more than I realize.
3. If I think about it, it matches His character as described in the Bible
4. Already given in another thread.

Hope that helps.

I am a Christian. I will become a Catholic Christian. Just as you are a Protestant Christian. But above all else we are Christians.

That is why your questions do not make any sense to us.

Could you be more specific?
